Welcome to The Long Road Home. My name is Chris Verdin and I work offshore on a tugboat. For years, I’ve lived a life of "28 and 14"—meaning I spend two-thirds of my life away from my family, missing birthdays, milestones, and the simple magic of being home.
I’m tired of being a visitor in my own house.
The Mission: Starting January 1st, I am documenting every single day of this year. From the loud, grease-stained engine rooms and the isolation of the ocean to the 14 days of pure joy when I finally get to hold my family again.
