TODAY IN HISTORY (19th February, 1913).
The shortest presidency was that of Pedro Lascuráin, who presided over Mexico for less than an hour on February 19, 1913. President Francisco Ignacio Maderno, who was overthrown along with his vice president, Jose Maria Pino Suarez (who was also slain on February 22, 1913), had Lascuráin as his legitimate successor. As a result, Lascuráin, who had served as Foreign Affairs Minister, was compelled to take the presidency. As president of Mexico, he did nothing more than name General Victoriano Huerta, the mastermind of the coup, Minister of Foreign Affairs, so that Huerta would succeed him as president upon his resignation.
