This is probably the best Andor Edit I've seen. Give it a watch immediately.

Yesterday a company fraudulently claimed my Violet Evergarden video, wiping 5 million views from my channel. This is a well-known copyright trolling organization who seemingly primarily go after smaller channels at random because there's a lot more Violet Evergarden content on youtube they could go after if that was their objection.

I would put it as fairly low likelihood that the video gets put back up - Youtube doesn't really protect creators well and editing has always been in a grey area. Not profiting off the content (and actively giving it to the owners through the claim system), strongly transforming the content and using less than four minutes of a full series have always been strong defenses against the claim edits are copyright infringement. Is a remix copyright infringement? To some, maybe, but not in my view. An edit isn't a substitute for the full series: this is very clear to me. You can't watch a 3 minute edit and understand any of the context or content of the show: it only makes sense if you go and consume the original content, driving traffic to the original creator.

This was done despite the fact I had a disclaimer about fair use in the description and openly advocated for people buying the blu-ray in the comments but apparently this wasn't enough. Not to mention the thousands of comments from people who said they watched the series due to the edit, fundamentally giving them better free advertising than their own trailer. I still have the file and may make a post if I upload it to somewhere else like Google Drive or another platform.

I think fundamentally despite being legally in the right here I don't have the money for a protracted legal battle if I reject the claim and I don't really fancy being the person who has to fight for the legal rights of all editors on youtube if I do. I'll see what I can do but I put it at 95% chance it doesn't get removed. Sad to see my most viewed video and something which drove a lot of traffic to my channel go - probably not going to reach 10k anytime soon due to it. But such is life.

If anything I kind of pity the sort of person who willingly works at the sort of company that does this: they can't have a nice life.
