As children enjoy the final days of February break outside in the winter weather, Shriners Children’s Boston is reminding parents that a little preparation goes a long way in keeping children warm. Your little ones are especially vulnerable to frostbite, as their bodies can lose heat up to four times faster than adults.
“The body responds to freezing temperatures by sending blood away from the hands and feet to protect the core,” explains Robert Sheridan, M.D., chief of staff and director of the burn service at Shriners Children's Boston.

Shriners Children's Boston is honored to partner with the Boston Firefighters Burn Foundation to host another successful Team Brave outing, this time to Kings for bowling.
These trips happen once a month and provide an inclusive environment, where volunteers from the Boston Fire Department partner up with our pediatric patients to take part in activities such as indoor mini golf, cooking lessons, and aquarium visits.
Team Brave provides burn survivors with the opportunity to gain independence while improving their physical endurance and learning new skills outside the hospital setting.
Shriners Children's Boston staff are invested in providing compassionate, wraparound care. Our hospital is honored to provide a special place of healing for our patients, families and caregivers. ❤️
