I have been endeavoring over the past few days to re-edit “The Cage” into airable condition, and have come to the conclusion that the only way it could’ve been aired is the way it did end up being aired, as a two parter.
I have taken a chainsaw to this film, and it’s still about six minutes too long. Even after losing entire scenes and trimming the hell out of just about everything else, there’s nothing else to cut without rendering the story incomprehensible.
I still plan on posting what I came up with on Tumblr and my Patreon, but mainly as a demonstration of what I’ve been saying for years, this thing was never intended to be aired, certainly not without some serious reworking, added FX shots of the ship, and probably some added scenes to stretch it out to two parts.

I have decided that the JJprise/Astral Princess model will sport a registry of NAH-1977. N for Federation registry, A identifies the ship as civilian, and H from “hospitality”, since as a cruise ship, it’s essentially a mobile hotel. 1977 since that’s the year The Love Boat premiered.
