J. Lehaitre's Tractor-Cycle, developed in 1938, was an unusual all-terrain vehicle that combined features of a motorcycle and a tracked tractor. Instead of relying on conventional wheels alone, it used a tracked rear section that provided excellent traction across mud, sand, snow, and rough ground. Although its top speed was only about 25 mph (40 km/h), the design prioritized mobility over speed, allowing it to traverse terrain that would stop most vehicles of its era. Lehaitre later experimented with military variants, including a version equipped with a machine gun, reflecting the growing interest in versatile off-road vehicles during the years leading up to World War II.
This is the oldest known photograph of London. It was taken in 1839 and focuses on the equestrian statue of Charles I near Charing Cross station. If you look closely you can see the ghostly forms of people who stayed still long enough to register on the exposure.
