Real Time History

Shoutout to our good friends over at ‪@EpichistoryTv‬ They started a series about ULTRA and the Engima, a very important aspect of the Second World War that often gets overshadowed by "the shooty bits". The visuals are jaw dropping and actually explain the functionality of the Enigma machine as well. Check out the first episode, the link is in the pinned comment below.

Real Time History

On 25 October 1944, the Casablanca class escort carrier USS St. Lo became the first major warship to sink as the result of a kamikaze attack. She had just survived the battle against a Japanese surface force off Samar Island when a wave of kamikazes hit Task Unit 77.4.3 (“Taffy 3”). Several carriers were hit but the damage control crews got the damage under control. The exception was the St. Lo which was hit at 10:53 AM by a Japanese Zero. She went down at 11:25 AM after a series of explosions in her hangar deck. If you want to learn more about the first Kamikaze attacks, what history books we have been reading and what we're working on, check out the newest edition of our newsletter: www.patreon.com/posts/129988111

We're contemplating a few things in regards to our video publishing frequency at the moment. With our kind of channel and our kind of topics in mind, what do you prefer?

Background: At the moment we upload 2 videos a month here and another one over at The Great War. We have been very happy with this cadence for a while. Though our last hand full of videos haven't done well, so we could have spend the same time working on one big video for September for example.

On this day 10 years ago, Toni and Flo (the founders of Real Time History) had their first day on the job for a brand new YouTube channel called The Great War which chronicled the First World War in real time 100 years later. 10 years, 1000 videos and a second YouTube channel, we're still here producing history documentaries. Over on The Great War we just uploaded an hour long documentary about 1914, the outbreak and the escalation of the First World War if you want to check it out. Thank you for all the support for our work here on YouTube, on Patreon and on Nebula over the years, we couldn't have done it without you.
