We’re really excited (and a bit emotional) to finally tell you that our new album ‘In Spite of Everything’ will be released on May 1st via Boostr Records.
You can pre-order / pre-save it here 👉slinky.to/LivingIsEasy
This album was made during a very difficult time for us, following the tragic loss of Tim’s eldest son. That experience shaped the heart of the record, and especially ‘Living Is Easy’, which looks straight at grief and that overwhelming feeling of helplessness that can come with it.
As Tim puts it:
“At 2 a.m., sitting up and contemplating our loss during my child’s wake, I found myself reflecting on all the major news events that had left their mark on me through the years and the helplessness I sometimes felt to change anything. Writing the last verse was the most difficult and personal thing I’ve done. My child’s journey and loss have changed me profoundly, but they also remind me, even in these darkest moments, of all I have to be grateful for. Through this song, I hope to honour their memory and the light they brought into our lives.”
Even with all that weight, In Spite of Everything isn’t a bleak record. It’s about holding loss and light at the same time — something Sice knows well through his work as a psychologist, where pain has to be faced, but hope matters just as much.
Musically, the album moves through those extremes. Tracks like ‘Song For Natalie’ sit deep in grief and atmosphere, while the closing ‘Wasn’t I Enough?’ finds something beautiful and life-affirming emerging from the chaos. Elsewhere, there’s still plenty of energy and melody — the post-punk/psych bite of ‘Affected / Rejected’, the luminous indie-pop feel of ‘Do Better, Know Better’, and the driving groove of ‘Bring Them Back Again’.
In short, it’s us taking pieces of what we’ve always done and pushing forward into new places.
