The most complex and well built model I've ever done, with some experimental features to boot. Ready to animate.

Rebranding.

So for a while now I've been meaning to make a new, definitive profile picture to use across all my social media. I wanted to make it something that is easier to see and distinguish against the dark background we usually have when browsing the internet (dark mode ftw)

I wanted an icon that represented what I do and that looked like me (as narcissistic as it may be, but hey, branding) but it was much more challenging than I thought. After all, how much stylization is too stylized? How much is too realistic? It's a hard balance to maintain and I'm sure I'll still work on the icon in the future, but what matters is the silhouette.

After all, the most important part is, I wanted something easy to understand even if you're not paying attention, something very recognizable. You know, the kind of thing you'll perceive even if you're just mindlessly scrolling. If you see a post of mine from now on, it will be easier to understand who it is at a glance, which is great for branding.
To achieve this, I knew I had to use a bright colored background that would be easy to see and remember, the icon is secondary. I really liked all the color options I tried, but ended up going with this yellow tone because it contrasts better with the background in most social media.
Finally, since I'm an animator, one other important thing for me was to make it an animatable vector, so I made the logo directly on #Moho which is my #vector and character animation software of choice. You can see on the last two pictures the shapes that I used and an example of frame animation. This also makes changing colors on the fly quite a cinch, such as changing my hat color, which I may end up doing in the future to represent the one I wear in real life.

All in all, I'm quite satisfied with the result. It's a small thing but hey, life is made of small things.

So, what do you think? Is it better? Does it make my social media more recognizable? Do you have any suggestions on how to improve it? Let me know and stay awesome!

Should I expand the scenes I already animated or move on to the next?

So, after much consideration, I decided that for my first animation study I'd try to recreate a scene from my favorite anime, using my technique.
My original plan was to work with non 2D references, but this will be a necessary learning step.

One week into my animator challenge and the biggest challenge so far has come in the form of character art style. To tell you the truth, I don't know what to go for. I know I don't want it to be 100% japanese anime, but I don't want to be too "realistic" either. Just how stylized is enough?
The complexity of the characters is another factor, I want a good complexity level, but I have to know when it's too much as it will have to be animated later.

I planned to stream today, but I'm not feeling too well, so I'll just do it tomorrow.

Looking at things like this and remembering how long it took me to make, how troublesome it is and realizing how bad it is, I see the importance of practicing and learning. Really, I literally can't understand how I could screw up so bad. I can't even explain what went wrong here.
