Storm surges and sea level rise pose a greater risk to coasts each year.
In the latest episode of the #GEOTalksPod, we spoke with Dr. Will Kochtitzky. He's leveraging GIS technology, lidar, and photogrammetry to study the effects of sea-level rise on the Camp Ellis Jetty in Maine. Listen to the episode to learn how informed coastal resilience is key to protecting coastal communities: www.bluemarblegeo.com/blog/podcast/impact-of-clima…
The concepts in this episode align with what Florida, North Carolina, and other southern states are experiencing in the wake of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. This episode was recorded before the storms, which devastated communities in September and October. We hope that these communities recover soon and heal from these disasters.

It’s nearly Earth Day and GEOTalks Ep. 3 is officially out! Kelsi Schwind joined us to share her work with @texasparksandwildlife's Landscape Ecology Program.
🌳
Bigtooth maples are a species of tree native to the Texas Hill Country. They’ve been part of Texas’s landscape since the last Ice Age and are visited by thousands annually. However, in recent years, scientists have noted that the Texas Hill Country's Bigtooth maple communities are in danger. In the episode, Kelsi highlighted how her automated method for extracting canyons has enabled her team to perform thorough research on Texas's Bigtooth maple communities.
We had a wonderful time talking with Kelsi about the program's comprehensive approach to conservation in Texas! Tune in and let us know what you think.
