While driving from Kaipattor – Vallicode Road, I decided to take the usual shortcut through Vallicode Puthenchanda – Mayalil Road to reach Chandanappally – Konni Road.
As I was just entering the shortcut, a red Honda Activa scooter rider approached from the opposite side. He was wearing a fully blacked-out full-face helmet, a blue shirt, and black pants (looked like a uniform).
Even before reaching close, he started continuously honking aggressively. I responded with one long honk to signal that I was already entering the road and to alert him that I was there.
However, instead of slowing down or passing calmly — even though there was more than enough space for both vehicles — he continued non-stop honking and shouting abusive words.
The unfortunate part is that I was traveling with my family in the car.
I am not sure what triggered his anger. Earlier, I had noticed a lorry entering the same shortcut from far away, so it’s possible something might have happened between the lorry and the scooter rider before this moment. But whatever the reason may be, taking out that frustration on another driver is never the right thing to do.
Roads are shared spaces. Attitude, anger, and ego have no place behind the wheel. In my experience, it sometimes feels like many drivers are quick to show aggression on the road.
Let’s all try to show a little more maturity and patience while driving. A few seconds of calm can prevent unnecessary conflict — and sometimes even accidents.
