Guys- I recently traveled to Washington to visit the national parks out there with my son. I almost always have a dog with me, and it felt odd not to have one. We couldn’t take a local shelter dog on a field trip because the national park service is not pet friendly. But- the last place we stayed was an Air BnB with a dog! Seriously- this made me so happy. I would literally pay extra to stay in a place that let me hang out with their dog. In the future, this will be the type of lodging I’ll always look for if I can’t travel with one!

Also, if you want to go to Mount Ranier and Olympic National Parks, this place was conveniently located in between those and near the airport. The host was absolutely wonderful and helpful, knows a ton about the park, and I’d 10/10 recommend it.

Tip #3: It’s Normal If Your New Dog Doesn’t Eat or Interact Right Away

Newly adopted dogs often go through a decompression phase where they appear shut down or disengaged. They may not eat, poop, or seek affection during the first few days—or even weeks.

This is a normal stress response as they try to understand their new environment. It’s not a sign of a bad match or behavioral issue—it’s the dog adjusting to massive change.

Give them space, security, and time to settle. They’ll come around, and when they do, it will be on the foundation of trust you’ve given them the chance to build.

Tip #2: Give Your New Dog Space (The 3-3-3 Rule Begins Here)

When adopting or bringing home a new dog, the first few days are critical. Many dogs need a decompression period—a few days to weeks of low stimulation, personal space, and calm observation. Rushing introductions to other pets or children can cause stress or even fights.

In this video/short, I explain why the first 3 days should be quiet and pressure-free. This is the beginning of the 3-3-3 rule: 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to settle in, and 3 months to feel truly at home.

Create a safe space, offer gentle guidance, and allow trust to build at the dog’s pace.

Tip #1: Feed New Dogs Separately (And Why It Matters)

Feeding your newly adopted dog in a calm, separate space is one of the kindest things you can do during their adjustment period. Many dogs come from situations where they had to compete for food—or went without it altogether.

Giving them their own feeding area ensures they feel safe and respected. It also reduces the risk of resource guarding and gives them time to observe your home’s rhythm and the behavior of other pets from a distance.

This small habit can create a big sense of trust.

Check out how many dogs we have spayed and neutered during March and April! I can't even fit them all in one photo. It will be a total of 21!

We've also gotten 13 puppies and 1 mama dog off the street and into a rescue during this time as well.

This quote by Margaret Mead nails it. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” — Margaret Mead

My heart is full.

In the past few weeks, I’ve witnessed incredible teamwork—people coming together to help individuals and their beloved pets during some of their hardest moments. It’s humbling and beautiful.

There are so many to thank, but a few highlights:

• Bagz of Luv Inc., Chanta, and generous donors ensuring Blue is safe while his person gets treatment.
• Sandwiches With Love, Happy Hounds Animal Rescue, URGENT DOGS AND CATS OF OKC, and an amazing foster who saved Mia from the euthanasia list.
• Kera for giving Lavender a safe space and offering endless support.
• OK Humane for a life-saving spay and City Care Night Shelter + The Homeless Alliance for being there as Lavender’s person rebuilds.
• Devoted fosters who stepped up to save the “baseball team litter” from a homeless camp—juggling schedules to give them a chance.
• And the woman helping a stray pack and litter near another camp, despite her own challenges, showing us what compassion looks like in action.

Every team effort—every share, donation, or moment of care—makes a huge difference.

This is how we change the world: together.

This is Buddy. He lives at a homeless encampment in OKC. When the owner of Puppy, the female dog in the last picture, went to prison, she was left behind. As puppy started tagging along with Buddy and his mama, Puppy and Buddy got busy and made this super cute bundle of puppy fur you see in the second picture.

But unfortunately, life on the streets is incredibly dangerous for young puppies. One died by freezing during the Arctic blast, and so many puppies have died of Parvo at other camps already this year. If they survive long enough to wean from their mama, they might be attacked, starve, or ran over.

So we are doing our best to help dogs on the streets spayed and neutered, and Buddy will be our 11th! If you would like to sponsor some sterilizations, we are looking for corporate sponsors to sponsor a batch of 10 for $1000, and individual sponsors to sponsor 1 dog each. Please contact the ‪@oklahomahumanesociety‬ ! And we’d love to know in the comments if you’ve sponsored a pup. We’ll show pictures and updates of sponsored dogs and give shoutouts!

Picking up this beautiful Jack Russell Terrier for spay and rabies immunization tomorrow!

Bella’s story is heartbreaking, but redemptive. Her 69 year old dad is the last of his family and has seen traumatic times in his life as well. He is the first to tell you that she rescued him just as much as he rescued her. He would do anything within his means for Bella 💕 So thankful to have the chance to meet Randy, help Bella, and it couldn’t be done without the ‪@oklahomahumanesociety‬ and their Spay it Forward program working with us.

If you would like help reduce the overpopulation of dogs in OKC and prevent more suffering animals, you can sponsor spay and neuter for dogs of unhoused and severely low income people. My cash app is linked above, and you can put spay or neuter in the notes.

If you’d like to put your email address as well, I will gladly send you a picture or the dog on surgery day as a thank you.

If your company or brand would be interested in sponsoring, we are happy to give a public should out and you are welcome to use any images or videos associated with the sponsored funds.

If you would like further verification, or to pay the Oklahoma Humane Society directly, that can be arranged too.

Thank you! And God bless 🙏

Round 2 of getting our fur friends fixed 💕 I truly feel dog’s are sent by God to the people who need them sometimes🫶 Today’s crew all had their own rides, so I don’t have before and after pictures. I’m exhausted after driving around OKC yesterday from 630 till 5 pm, but a part of me is a little sad that I didn’t get to spend time with them.

Each pup you see in these pictures has a unique and beautiful story, and they have incredibly loving owners who would do anything within their means for them. Bear was found as the soul survivor at an abandoned home- 2 other dogs were locked in a crate and deceased. The finder kept Bear, and is the best dog daddy, even though he wasn’t prepared for a dog. He just couldn’t let him go through any more after that.

Diamond has a big family with dog and human siblings. Her most special human brother has special needs and he loves and takes care of all the dogs.

Medusa was abandoned on a dirt road like so many dogs around here are. Her mama’s friend took her in and tried to find a rescue when animal control was too full to help. She couldn’t and asked Medusa’s mama if she could help try to find a rescue, but after meeting her, both she and her son fell in love. Medusa will never experience abandonment again, or have to bear any more puppies for someone to make money off of. She will also be trained as a service dog to help her boy with his autism and seizures ❤️

And another special thanks to the ‪@oklahomahumanesociety‬ Spay it Forward program. I don’t know who makes this possible or where the funds for the program come from, but without this program- these pups would not have been able to get fixed. From the bottom of my heart, I am so thankful.
