It is recommended to fast nine days of Dhul-Hijjah.

“There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days – i.e., ten days of Dhul-Hijjah).” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, not even jihad for the sake of Allah?” He said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, unless a man goes out himself with his wealth and does not come back with anything (i.e., he expends all his wealth and is martyred).” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 969)

And it was narrated from Hunaydah ibn Khalid from his wife that one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to fast nine days of Dhul-Hijjah and the day of ‘Ashura’ and three days of each month – the first Monday and two Thursdays.” (Narrated by Imam Ahmad, 21829; Abu Dawood, 2437

The Cult Apologist

As-Salaamu Alaikum

It is amazing how many similarities there are in the characteristics of different types of abuse…whether it is sexual, financial, or spiritual abuse.

The abuse apologist, or the cult apologist/fence rider/fence licker, is one of the most dangerous and annoying types of individuals. They act as if they are free from the abuse but find ways to justify the abuse and even call victims back to the abusive environment.

It is important to understand a bit of the cult apologist’s psychology. Much of their behavior can be explained by their urge to avoid accountability. Many abusive victims have a hard time accepting their own guilt in the abuse they have suffered. This is not to say that victims are to be blamed for the transgressions they have suffered. This is to say that victims may feel embarrassed about the actions they took or didn’t take that helped put them in an abusive situation.

Instead of acknowledging and owning their own actions or inactions, they make excuses for the abuser. They say things like “it wasn’t that bad” or “they (the cult leader/s) had good intentions” or “I benefited a lot” or accuse people who speak against the cult as being extreme.

Taking ownership of your own role in your cult involvement is a major step towards healing and waking up to the truth. Cult apologists selfishly look for ways to excuse themselves.

When the apologist gives excuses to the cult and cult leaders, they are really giving excuses for themselves.
