Public Systems (also known as social welfare systems) are established to provide basic levels of wellbeing to the citizens. They include programs such as food and cash assistance, employment schemes and systems for law & order, public health, and transport. There is immense scope in practice driven & inspired research on such systems through Operations Research & Analytics (OR). A combination of government stakeholders and OR researchers can work wonders for such systems.
The Government Operational Research Service with 600+ OR professionals in practically every department of the UK government is a shining example of the possible collaboration and impact.
The objective of the symposium on Public Systems Planning & Optimization (PSPO) is to empower young researchers & connect all stakeholders (government, academia) to create a vibrant community. It will have weekly webinars on research articles as well as plenary sessions delivered by govt practitioners and renowned researchers.
