Today is the 20th anniversary of my father’s death. Steve Anzovin of blessed memory. I was 20 at the time. This is the halfway mark, a day where the amount of time I lived with him is exactly equal to the amount of time I have lived without him. During the Hanukkah attacks of 2019, I decided to rededicate myself to my Jewish identity.
Through taking up Daf Yomi. Yes, as a 7.5 year
"fuck you" to antisemites. But also as a way to rediscover joy in Judaism again. Out of this darkness, may we each find something important to hold on to. "May It Be a Light to You in Dark Places, When All Other Lights Go Out."
A safe and light-filled Hannukah to all, and spite the despair in this world. 💗

Shalom, friends. Here I was. Excited to film a
fun video for Hanukkah to share with you tonight. Then I saw the news of the slaughter of (as of now) 11 people at a Hanukkah holiday celebration in Sydney. May the memories of those murdered be a blessing forever. May those who planned and carried out this attack burn in gehennom for eternity. May the injured, including Ahmed al Ahmed, the hero who disarmed one of the gunman, have a full recovery.
My heart is with the Jewish community of Australia, and with Am Yisrael wherever in the world they are right now.
If these fucking monsters thought they could break us on Hanukkah, boy oh boy were they fucking wrong.
