“When words fail, music speaks” this was said by one of the greatest children’s story tellers, Hans Christian Anderson. My own experience with music therapy, albeit almost by accident, not only pulled me out of a very difficult moment but changed the rest of my life. At the age of 8, after various family problems and traumas, severe bullying and eventual expulsion from school, I protected myself and retreated into my own world, no longer speaking for several months, forgetting how to read and write and cutting myself off from the world around me.

My mom kept me out of school for almost a year and it was at this point that I found a safe place in music. Singing, listening, playing piano, all of it by ear. All possible through the guidance of my music teachers and mother. It rebuilt me. It gave me a value system that made me feel like I was worth something, like I had a voice.

I was honored to attend the @nordoffrobbins awards in London this week to support a charity I so closely identify with and be presented with their Global Impact award by my dear friend Natalie Imbruglia. Thank you Nordoff and Robbins for the important work you do, bringing light into the lives of so many people and making music a kinder place.

È stato un onore condurre la 70ª edizione dei David di Donatello per l’Accademia del Cinema Italiano e Rai Uno, al fianco della straordinaria Elena Sofia Ricci. Quest’anno, per la prima volta, il premio per la Miglior Regia è stato vinto da una donna, e tante altre donne sono state premiate in numerose categorie. Il leggendario Teatro 5 di Cinecittà, dove Fellini ha lavorato e girato molti dei suoi film più iconici, è stata la nostra casa per una settimana, rendendo la serata ancora più speciale.

It was an honour to host the 70th edition of the David di Donatello Awards for the Italian Film Academy and Rai Uno, alongside the amazing Elena Sofia Ricci. This year, for the first time, a woman won the Best Director Award and so many women were winners in many other categories. Fellini’s legendary Teatro 5 at Cinecitta, where he worked and filmed so many of his iconic movies, was our home for a week and made the night even more special.
