RANI is a singer, songwriter and performer who first came to the attention of the music world through a number of high profile vocal and co-write dance collaborations including Sam Feldt’s “Post Malone”, David Guetta’s – “Get Together”, Faustix’s “Crying In The Sun" and Möwe feat Conor Maynard & RANI’s “Talk to Me”. As evidenced on her 2021 album 396 and this year’s EP, Secret Side, RANI is as much a singer and performer as she is a songwriter with her confidence in the latter honed during a songwriting session in LA with Olaf Blackwood when she was in her late teens. Born Shannon Hilversum, she takes her name from her middle name Sewrani, given to her by her parents in honour of her Surinamese grandmother, Sewrani. “Rani means queen in Hindi and having a name that carries this title and honours my grandmother is my motivation to create music that is heartfelt, that is genuine, and that inspires,” she says.

I think the Holidays are the perfect moment to reflect and think about what I’m grateful for, what I’ve learned and most of all spend extra quality time with the people I love the most.

For a lot of people this is such a warm and cozy season but that’s not the case for everyone. Some of us are missing people we love, feeling a little lost or alone or needing a little extra magic to lift us up.
That’s why I wanted to write a song that brings comfort and reminds us to believe in the miracles this season might bring.
Most of all, this Christmas I want to ask you the question: ‘’What are you wishing for?’’

“Set me free” is about holding onto somebody you’ve already lost and trying to heal a broken heart. The feeling of loving someone so much, you can’t let them go, even though you have to. It’s time to choose yourself, but when you’re in this situation it’s so scary to look into the future and accept that it’s going to be without them.
If you’re going through this, just know that everyday it will get a little bit better. Sometimes good things have to fall apart so better things can fall together.
