A Growing Trend of Disrespect: The Kwam1 and Miss Comfort Scuffles – Why the Law Must Be Equal
In recent weeks, two shocking incidents have put the spotlight on the growing issue of airport misbehavior and the disregard for authority at Nigerian airports. The first, between the legendary Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM1) and a ValueJet pilot, saw the renowned musician attempting to prevent a flight from taking off, disrupting not only his own travel plans but endangering the lives of all those onboard. The second, more recent incident involving Miss Comfort and Ibom Air, saw a female passenger engaging in a violent altercation with airport staff.
Both incidents are a disturbing reflection of a larger issue in Nigerian society—individuals flouting basic airport rules and harassing airport staff. While Miss Comfort is being prosecuted for her violent actions, KWAM1 appears to have faced no consequences for his scuffle, leaving many to wonder why the law seems to treat the two situations differently.
This growing trend is unacceptable. It is crucial that the law punishes all equally, irrespective of their social or professional status. The law must not discriminate based on fame, influence, or position. Both KWAM1 and Miss Comfort should face equal repercussions for their disruptive behavior. If our country is to move forward and be taken seriously on the global stage, we must ensure that laws are followed without exception.
It’s time for Nigerians to learn how to act right— for the good of society, and for the safety and well-being of everyone involved. If we want to foster order and respect, we must start by holding everyone accountable, no matter their status. Only through collective responsibility can we achieve a society that functions smoothly and respectfully.
