CHAMP TALK With Branden Hudson

Doing your best versus doing the best you know how.

Are you doing your absolute best?

The actual best that you're truly capable of?

Or, are you really just doing the best that you know how?

Time and time again, we hear the response that we're doing the best that we can, but is that true?

I think that most of the time, we're likely doing the best that we know instead.

For instance.

In Jiu-jitsu, during live rolls in my kids' class.

I'll give the kids instructions to my students to better their positions or potentially get the finish.

Kids are so great because they're so unapologetically honest.

A lot of the times, I'll get the response, "I'm trying my hardest."

Which is true.

However, they're trying their hardest at what they are doing that moment opposed to what their coach's instructions are that I see from the side.

We also do this in life.

We get instruction.

We receive guidance.

We get advice to find success and solutions for our problems.

But, for some reason we continue working our hardest on the things that get us nowhere.

If we'd stop and take the advice from someone that we asked the opinion of in the first place, we may find out that we really weren't doing the best that we can.

We're just doing the best that we know.

That mindset, I believe, stems from our tribes.

Our tribes can originate from our families.

Friends.

Neighborhoods.

From our places of worship, or from any other groups that we're seeking acceptance from.

Humans are wired for connection and acceptance.

Thus, our tribes and beliefs have a major influence over our mindset.

So essentially, we tend to fool ourselves by believing that we're doing our very best.

In my opinion, by doing our best, we need to be doing more than just trying.

We need to go outside of what we know, seek other ways to do things, and apply others' wisdom to find the solutions to our problems.

Are you doing the best you can or just the best you know?

CHAMP TALK With Branden Hudson

I truly feel bad for those in today's dating scene.

Unless you're soiling oats to it's fullest being single, I know it's tough or here to find true connection.

What do you even look for in a partner?

Not to get all controversial, but my wife wears the title "Wife" with extreme pride and value.

Rightfully so, she's spent her entire adult life growing, maturing, and learning how to be the perfect wife.

She lives for her family, for her husband.

She understands her man is the king, she's the queen, and my children are her children, as well and not seen as anything differently.

She's formed strong bonds with their mother, with my mother, and she's a young grandmother to grandkids who aren't related to her by blood.

She embodies being their Lola.

Add our son that we have together and its a magical and difficult but complete bond.

She does this because to her, that's what a wife does.

They make, support, and nurture a family.

So the title Wife is more than just a name for her.

It's a part of who she is.

It's her identity.

So what did I look for in a wife?

Exactly what I just described.

I have a woman who calls me out on my shit.

Not just to feed her own ego but to challenge me to be better because ultimately, a better me means a better us.

She believes in me.

A lot of y'all don't know this, but my wife met me when I was on work release as an inmate at the Wicomico County Detention Center.

I was serving a year sentence for Felony Distribution of Marijuana.

I was just left by my then fiance while in jail.

Heartbroken.

No job.

No money.

I was a bouncer at a local bar, and working at a shoe store that I opened at the time.

She listened to all of my outrageous dreams and hopes with a convoy of baggage while barely even knowing me.

There was no coach, or leader, or gym owner.

Hell, I was a bit out of shape at that time.

She even bluntly told me that I wasn't her type and that she was used to more athletic men.

She definitely got that one wrong.

But she believed in me.

She has forgiveness in her heart and has allowed me to sit beside her in life after I have done some really horrible things that I'll never be able to take back.

She's a leader!

She leads by example in all that she does. She takes no shit nor brings senseless nonsense to people's lives.

She has high standards of herself and those in her circles.

You're either going to live with integrity or you're not going to be around very long.

We can be at each other's throats sometimes about the dumbest shit.

It can pile on for days or even weeks where we just keep throwing logs on the fire from our own inflated egos.

When it's time to get it together or when something serious attempts to invade our lives, we work seamlessly like Navy Seals when the duty calls.

We have each other's backs.

So that's what I look for in my wife, and that's why she is my life.

She's more than just good company or my love.

She's a part of me.

She enhances every part of me and makes me whole.

So don't settle for what just feels good in the moment.

Look deeper into a partner.

Have the expectations and standards that you require.

CHAMP TALK With Branden Hudson

Do you ever feel like you're stuck?

I talk with a lot of young people who say the same thing.

They say that they feel stuck and that everyone around them is doing bigger and better things.

When we're in our twenties, it's easy to compare ourselves to everyone else.

It's easy to fool ourselves into thinking we're supposed to be at a certain stage in life other than the young, exploratory phase of figuring it out.

However, that doesn't ease the stress of someone who's feeling that way.

I've learned that there are three things that could help with that stagnant feeling of being stuck.

The first thing is to define who you are.

Who is it that you truly are?

Not the name you were given at birth or the nationality you originated from.

Who are you to the core?

Chances are that most of us are the same person we've been since we were kids.

Sure, we've evolved and are more mature.

But that person we were as youths, with all of those unique wants and dreams, is who we really are to the core.

The unapologetic you.

The person who, for whatever reason, was suppressed as you got older is most likely the same person you are today, minus what society wants you to believe.

Take some time to sit with yourself and define who you really are.

Next, what is it that you really want?

By answering what we really want, we're able to discover why we are here on this earth.

What is our purpose and mission in life, and what are the paths that we need to take to get to that destination?

Once you realize who you are and what you really want, it helps you recognize your purpose.

The final step is to find a way to deploy that purpose into the world.

When we deploy our purpose into this world, we are living a life that is for us but also serves others.

We carry out the gifts we have been blessed with by helping others.

This will help you develop a plan and strategy to define what happiness and success look like for you and the people closest to you.

That void and stuck feeling will disappear, and a life of purpose and fulfillment will take its place.

Ask yourself who you are.

Identify what you want and what your purpose is.

Most importantly, deploy your gifts into this world.

Things will make a whole lot more sense to you when doing so.

CHAMP TALK With Branden Hudson

You have always been your toughest competition.

Think about it.

Who's your worst enemy?

Who is your Arch Nemesis?

For years, I thought that nobody wanted me to win.

I thought that the world was trying to hold me back.

I believed that if you weren't with me, that you were against me and if so, you were my opponent.

I would make my ops out to be so much bigger and tougher than the really are.

That's because I needed to monsters to be big and scary.

Most of the time, I was the one who created that narrative in my head.

I didn't use that for a victim's mentality.

I used that as ammunition and motivation to succeed and strive even harder.

I'm very guilty of having the Micheal Jordan complex.

I involuntarily create fictitious enemies to keep me motivated.

Honestly, I think I needed that validation in life.

I needed the recognition of being able to achieve the impossible.

I yern for the feeling of accomplishment.

I've always been the type that if you said I couldn't do it, that I was not only going to do it but I was going to do it and make it look easy.

All while running the scoreboard up.

Sorry, but not sorry.

That's just who I am.

I'm a Cleaner per the definition in Tim Grover's book Relentless.

I have this firestorm inside of me that burns.

The burn isn't a volcano that is building pressure and is ready to spew.

It's more like hot lava spewing uncontrollably over everything.

It's more a steady blaze that can be utilized and redirected when it needs to be.

However, after decades of thinking that everyone is fueling this competitive rage, I realized that the only one I'm in competition with is the same fire that motivates me.

I am my own Arch Nemesis.

I'm my toughest competitor, while at he same time my own worst enemy.

It's me that I'm in competition with each and every day.

Just as much as I'm my own best friend, I'm also my own worst enemy locked up inside of my own prison of thoughts, judgments, insecurities, and fears.

I scrutinize almost every move.

I question all outcomes of decisions and ponder if what I'm doing is the "right" thing to do.

It can get quite overwhelming if I let it.

If I allow my thoughts to eat away my decisions, it can lead me down a path of indecision or overthinking.

Which eventually leads to self sabotage and destruction.

So, how do I defeat this worthy adversary?

I remember who's in the driver's seat.

I constantly remind myself that the good fight is won by Core Values.

It's won by experienced instincts and won by always doing what's right.

I look in the mirror every day, knowing that mediocrity, being average and settling for good enough, has been coming for me every day of my life since the day I was born.

It consumes family and friends and is influencing so many of us daily.

So I look in the mirror at my Arch Nemesis, my worst enemy, my toughest competition who is plagued with mediocrity, averageness, and settling for good enough.

I say to that MF'er, "You're never going to catch me!"

"You're not the captain of this ship."

"I'm going to beat you in every aspect of the game today, and just today."

If I focus on chipping away at my goals, just today, by taking one step at a time.

By climbing this mountain bit by bit.

Then, that force of average that I'm competing with will get lapped over and over.

I say to my other half, "I win, not you!"

I win through action, my core values, and using the fire that rages inside of me.

How about you?

How do you defeat your Arch Nemesis?

Your goals and dreams are one hundred percent within your reach.

We tend to think that we're so far away from our dreams, but we'd be surprised to know that we're a hell of a lot closer to them than we think.

The problem is that most aren't locking in and going all in on themselves.

The goals that you're struggling with are a reflection of the work you're not doing.

You can't expect to win by cutting corners.

We say we want "financial freedom."

We want free time.

That new house.

That new car.

A healthy relationship.

The problem is most people aren't willing to do harder things that they've never done before.

You're expecting to magically achieve these life changing dreams by doing the same shit that you've always done.

Work just enough hours to say you put a full day in.

Make just enough calls to meet the minimum standard.

Make excuses about marketing yourself on social media.

Make excuses not to go to the gym.

Believing your significant other is going to miraculously change into this more upgraded version.

Thinking that mister or misses "right" is going to randomly pop up on your timeliness and just choose you.

Folks are doing the same things, expecting different results, and complaining that everything and everybody around them is f*cked up.

If serious changes aren't made with your wealth, health, and relationships.

If dropping the excuse making, victim mentality doesn't change, you will wake up one day, and it'll be too late.

Quit accepting just good enough.

You're waiting for something or somebody to come along and save your ass, and your time is quickly running out.

I know this is harsh and stings, but life isn't going to get no easier.

You might as well take action, take control, and be a savage about what and who you want.

You've only got one shot at this, and it's only yours to claim.

Go after what you want.

Some people's worst days, are other's folk's best days.

My pastor said today that is you're in the lower twenty percent of earners in America, than you're richer than eighty percent of the world.

Just because you're not currently running the scoreboard up doesn't mean that you're not winning.

When you're used to throwing up wins in many different areas of life, don't think that you're not gaining momentum and still winning.

Especially when it's the third quarter.

Figuratively and hypothetically speaking.

Business and life are all about waves and momentum.

Sometimes, those waves are back to back and very aggressive in the realms of winning.

You could just have some impeccable timing, some opportunities that popped up at the same time, or finally have your handwork pay off.

Nevertheless, to others, your string of wins catch tons of attention.

That can feel threatening to others because, again, you're running the scoreboard up.

Like all things, your runs will slow down, and things won't seem as white hot as they did.

That's when the chatter, the hate, and the lack of buy-in take place.

The hate will come from outside entities, like your competitors, ex-employees, or disgruntled clients.

The chatter usually comes from those who are benefiting from you the most.

Usually, that's internal or from teammates that aren't fully invested.

The lack of buy-in comes from two places.

First, as the leader, it's your responsibility to steadily sell the vision to the people on your team and remind them why they're there.

Another area that lack of buy-in comes from is the lack of consistency and shiny object syndrome that a lot of people fall victim to.

So then it feels like you're not winning because the wins aren't as aggressive as they were while riding the waves.

Add that with the outside components I previously mentioned, you may get fooled that you're doing something wrong.

That's bullshit!

You're doing exactly what's needed fulfilling the commitments to your dreams.

Stay focused on what got you to where you are, and don't let the distractions take you off course.

Remember, not everyone will have the capacity to see and know what you know.

That's why it's critical that you double down on your basics and fundamentals.

Stay laser focused on the outcome you desire and where you are in the moment.

It's a lonely road to the top, and those that you start with aren't always going to be who you end with.

Your time to run the scoreboard up is just around the corner.

As long as you don't get distracted.

CHAMP TALK With Branden Hudson

We do not negotiate with terrorists.

You see, we all have a coward that lives inside of our heads.

We may not like to admit it, but it's there, and it's very real.

He's the one that you negotiate with.

The one that you'll allow yourself to believe.

He's the one that has more experience than any other entity that you'll ever face.

Some of us are best friends with our cowards.

We hang on to his thoughts.

We trust that it'll keep us safe.

Hell, we've even allowed that coward to make absolute fools of us at times.

That coward that lives in our heads has allowed us to f&ck people over.

It's prevented us from showing up when we were called on.

It tells us that we've done enough today and that we can finish it tomorrow.

That f%cking coward that lives inside our heads has allowed us to lie cheat, and steal.

It has allowed us not to follow our dreams and finish our missions.

He's convinced us that mediocre and average are acceptable terms of living and just good enough will suffice.

That coward has us believing that we're not strong enough, good enough, too fat, too old, too stupid.

That coward inside of our heads, has let us say goodbye to the people who we loved.

All because we believed that we couldn't get through whatever we were going through during that difficult moment.

I don't care who you are, we all have him living inside of our minds.

Over-thinking, under-performing, and convincing us to belive the negative stories that we make up about ourselves.

You can't negotiate with these terrorists.

You don't have to believe the lies that MF'cker tells you.

You have abilities.

You are better than just good enough.

You're not too anything other than too great to listen to that coward residing in your head.

Of course, there are moments when it's easier to believe the coward's bullshit.

We've all had our moments of weakness, but that shit is way harder to live with than to go through.

And nothing great comes from easy.

How can we explain to our children that they should follow their hearts and go after their dreams if we allow ourselves to accept mediocre.

They're going to find out one day that you didn't go after the life that you deserved!

That you negotiated with the terrorist in your head, and you chose good enough over great.

It doesn't have to be like that.

We have the ability and the duty to the people we love.

To go out and make something of ourselves, no matter what the circumstance is.

This world needs the greatest version of you.

We owe it to this world.

We owe it to our kids.

We owe the people that we've hurt and the people that have hurt us. .

We owe our family and friends the gifts that we have been blessed with.

More than anything else, we owe ourselves that version of us.

The Champion.

It's time to shut the coward in your head up and become elite.

You've got way more in your tank than what you're giving, I know it, and so do you.

Everyone who cares about you knows it as well.

The other night, I was crying like a baby.

It jusy came out of nowhere while I was washing the dishes.

I don't know if I'm turning soft or what, but I a balling.

I'm just so grateful for the life that I have.

At times I think just about what I've done and gone through and really don't deserve yo have a life this good.

I'm blessed with such an amazing family along with my SBY MMA family.

It's a privilege to have such amazing people who work on themselves mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

For whatever reason, allow me to be a part of that journey.

From our coaches.

Our arents.

Members and supporters, we have the best people and fighters anyone could ask for.

Never in a million years would I have thought eleven years ago that I'd have such a network of high-quality humans.

You couldn't tell me eleven years ago I'd have the facility and accolades to go with.

I truly pour my heart into my craft and give my one hundred percent every single day.

I do this to provide high-quality training, a safe and conducive atmosphere, and the fighter's spirit.

Thus is why I'm shown so much love in return.

My why has been and remains the same.

To improve the quality of life of everyone around me through mindset and fitness.

And it just keeps on growing.

I'm extremely humbled and grateful.

CHAMP TALK With Branden Hudson

I'm the type of person who loves everybody.

I've never met a stranger and all are welcome to the party.

I advocate for people and just as equally will call folks out on their bullshit.

But, when it comes to being a Man, and when being a real man is not represented in a respectable way, I get agitated more than anyone else.

Men claim that they want to be respected.

They claim they hold shit down.

They will make all these promises when things are copacetic.

Then, when their little panties get put in a bunch, they'll decide to throw all of those false promises out the window.

Lame shit I see from men all of the time, like using kids as ammunition so that you can continue to collect state benefits.

I hear men saying they can't make decisions or do something without talking to their wives first, but not in a respectful perspective.

More in a way of needing permission to be a leader.

Also, blaming their significant others as to why they're not ahead or able to do things in life.

Soft ass men that skip out on their responsibilities and children.

Oh, I love this one, "I gotta babysit my child."

That's some soft ass shit!

Where's your self-respect and integrity?

I pissed some people off a while back with a post that I said these weak men use mental health as an excuse to never commit to anything.

I still firmly stand by those statements.

There's nothing more embarrassing than a man who refuses to be a man and not hold down his responsibilities.

Who refuses to build others, have purpose, and make no excuses.

I don't respect those weak, MF'ers, and I don't connect with that thinking.

You don't have to be an alpha, or a fighter, or uber-successful to be a strong leading man.

You just have to honor your commitments.

You got to stop being a whiny bitch when shit doesn't go your way.

More so, show the world authenticity.

Shout out to the real men out there who are still leading the charge.

For every nine men that are weak and frail, there's one strong man who's leading for their sorry asses.

I appreciate the real men who are doing what's needed for this world.

Also, ladies, shout to y'all who are holding it down for both roles.

All the love in the world for you women that find a way and maintain that boss-queen mindset.

I just believe firmly that men need to call out other men more, especially when they're not acting like one.

CHAMP TALK With Branden Hudson

Who cares what people thing of you?

None of that pays your bills, feeds your family, or make love to you.

So why bother worrying about the critics, the haters, and the naysayers?

I'm constantly criticized about my content.

I guess so.

I put so much content out that it's bound to rub someone the wrong way.

The thing about me is that I don't just put out my highlight reels.

I get very personal and vulnerable with what I share in hopes of helping and inspiring.

I also don't shy away from expressing my wins, expressing the way that I view life, and my successes.

In addition, I run my business the same way.

I'm very straightforward with my teaching and coaching.

I can be soft and understanding but also harsh and stern.

That in itself can be a bit uncomfortable.

In all, I'd like to take this opportunity for all of those whose feelings I may have hurt and made uncomfortable to apologize.

I apologize for absolutely nothing!

I'm not sorry for a MF'ing thing.

If people don't agree with me, that's fine.

If they want to spread negativity about me or about the way that I run my ship, then they can unfollow me and / or not be around me.

This is a cold world with way too many feelings, stimulates, and participation trophies.

There are too many fake examples of what men and women should look like and represent.

Drugs, alcohol, crime, dropout rates, middle schoolers sharing explicit sexual pictures, and video games are worshipped more than God.

There's a standard that we as a society are craving and what we're getting ain't it.

Secondly, you wouldn't believe the number of people who I help on a regular basis.

I'm not talking about Real-Estate, losing weight, or something of the obvious.

I'm talking about people who are suicidal.

People with kids that have serious issues.

People who are struggling with addiction or had too many to drink and need help from possibly being sexually assaulted or worse.

I get messages all the time from people I care about who are on the brink of one or two decisions away from losing their shit.

So for me to sugarcoat life and act like it's all pink f*cking rainbows and candy streets, is not gonna happen.

That's the last thing the people I'm helping want to hear about in times of crisis.

I'm also raising children to be leaders and independent.

I want them strong and confident, fearless and bold.

I want our kids to know that they have the ability to do anything they f*cking want and nobody can stop them from accomplishing their dreams.

How's the sugar coating been working for society lately?

How's the over expression of "feelings" been places being shot up?

I'm not perfect.

I am one hundred percent flawed.

I'm still in progress, and I'm trying to defeat my demons every single day.

But there's no chance in hell that I'm going to feel bad or apologize for the way that I lead.

If I'm creating other leaders and champions, the last time I checked, leaders and champions are supposed to lead fearlessly.

So the next time somebody starts whining about how you're leading, ask them what the f*ck are they doing to improve this world.

Ask them what risks they are taking and how vulnerable they are being with those they do not know.

I think we know the answer.

Some surface level bullshit or blank stares.

If you're leading people.

If you're putting yourself out there and being the mouthpiece to what's right and what's important, especially through social media.

Know that you're strong enough and brave enough to open yourself up to criticism.

But don't stop!

Keep pouring into the world with your gifts and light.

Because the boos always come from the cheapest seats.
