Moments like these remind me how powerful kindness and connection truly are.

Friends, every time we arrive for hospital visiting hours, Mr. Turnquest @tahaloeturnquest_bsn always helps me find a wheelchair for my mother when one isn’t available.

During this journey, we also connected with a beautiful sister whose brother is hospitalized directly across from mine.

One night, when their family was gathered in deep prayer, I asked my mother and brother to join me in standing with them — believing together that all would be well. When it was time to leave, I let her know “we are with you.”

Last night, we witnessed a beautiful turnaround — she was feeding her brother, and he looked completely different from just a few nights before. As she fed him, I walked over and whispered in her ear, “Look at God!!!!”🙏🏿

Afterward, she shared with me that she had wanted to bring something for my brother, but he told her I had him on a strict diet and didn’t play around (lol!). She laughed and said she’s just as protective with her brother’s care.

Since that night, our families have bonded. And my brother — being who he is, making everyone in the ward laugh and lifting spirits — formed a special connection with them too.Come to find out, Mr. Turnquest and this wonderful family are actually related.

The world is smaller, and the love is greater, than we often realize. Grateful for the unexpected blessings along this path. #TheMrs #granddame

Even during this difficult trip back home to The Bahamas, I’ve been reminded how powerful connection truly is.

One woman stopped me in the lobby of the hotel where my mother and I are staying, just as I was filling out hospital paperwork for my brother—she’s here from Virginia and staying at the same hotel. Another, a kind manager at Wendy’s, offered such warmth as I picked up the cheeseburger meal my brother kept asking for. I was hesitant to bring it—concerned about his health—but our mother insisted I honor his request (lol, and of course I listened). And a third, a beautiful woman visiting from Jamaica, recognized me as I was walking through the hotel lobby.

Each one approached me with: “Cynthia?… I follow you on social media.”

To all three of you—thank you for the kindness, encouragement, and light. You reminded me of the beauty in showing up with grace, even in heavy moments🙏🏿

I truly enjoyed my Bantu knots, but today called for a little change. Freshly shampooed, conditioned, and moisturized with my oil—my hair is now twisted, soft, and thriving. And the shrinkage? She said, “We’re keeping it tight today,” lol.
