Throwback… 👑
While many people know me from my recent pageant journey, pageantry has actually been part of my story for much longer.

My very first pageant was Little Miss Bahamas, in Freeport Bahamas when I was just 8 years old.

Fast forward decades later… these photos were taken at my first national pageant as an adult. I was 50 years old, wearing braces, proudly rocking my signature bald hairstyle, and stepping back onto the pageant stage.

These are what I wore for the interview, swimsuit and evening gown competitions.

One thing that hasn’t changed is the man standing beside me. ❤️ Hubby has been my biggest supporter from the very beginning, always encouraging me to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

After just returning from America’s Most Beautiful, pageant season has me reflecting on how far this journey has taken me…from Little Miss Bahamas at 8 years old… to national pageant stages across America.

For now, I’m enjoying every moment of pageant season…

Then it’s back to Harvard this fall. 📚👑

Sometimes looking back reminds you just how far you’ve come. ✨

I went to Texas for Americas Most Beautiful pageant for fun girls trip, to let loose and just be me. We hugged, shared stories, laughed until it hurt and I left with new friends, a mentor in Kennedy Davenport who became more like a bestie, and three awards to top it off. America’s Most Beautiful gave me way more than I expected.

Arrived back in Boston… and now it’s time to prepare for Harvard this fall. 📚❤️

First, congratulations to @tamaraabney on making history as the first Black woman to win the America’s Most Beautiful pageant! Thank you for inviting me on what you called a “girls’ trip.” I’m so glad I came because I would have regretted missing the opportunity to witness your historic win.

With only two weeks to prepare, my goal was to step onto that stage as the most authentic, opulent version of myself…wearing my braids, an Afro, and embracing exactly who I am…. And have lots of professional pictures and videos by @smorstudiosllc

Thanks to the incredible RuPaul’s Drag Race RuPaul's Drag Race star Kennedy Davenport two weeks of preparation became an unforgettable experience. I called him last minute and he delivered! Together we created looks that earned me three special awards…including Most Fashionable/Most Stylish, and memories I’ll cherish.

More importantly, I laughed, made new friends, had the best soul food in Texas (thanks to Kennedy), and proved that pageantry can simply be fun….especially when you design your own way to play the game.

As a 55-year-old Harvard student, elected official, businesswoman, widow policy advocate, and lifelong lover of beauty and reinvention, I’m proof that you never outgrow the joy of trying something new.

Will I do it again?

Absolutely. 😂👑
