Since hearing the news that Yolanda Cellucci passed away, I can’t stop thinking about the day I sat across from her on Style and Glamour with Yolanda.

I was there as Mrs. Massachusetts, crown on, sash on, ready to talk about fashion and personal style, the things Yolanda knew so well. But she didn’t stop there.

When I began talking about widows, she leaned in. She wanted to understand why the work mattered to me, what women experience that no one talks about and how loss can change a woman and what she decides to do with that loss.

Yolanda had experienced profound loss herself, and I’ve often wondered if that was part of why she listened the way she did. She wasn’t simply moving through questions for the camera. She was actually listening.

Boston has lost a true original…a Grande Dame whose style touched presidents, Celtics legends and generations of Boston women, yet who made space on her show to look beyond my crown and ask real questions about my work for widows.

Rest beautifully, Yolanda. Thank you for appreciating my style while also seeing all of me that day…not just the crown. 🤍🤍🤍

It’s Friday, ladies. Before you pay everyone else, remember to pay YOU. 💰

Years ago, I began practicing a simple financial discipline: pay yourself first.

Take a percentage of what comes into your hands, whether it’s income from a career, a business, or money you manage for your household, and put it aside for your future.

Start with $1 if that’s where you are. Start with 5%. Work toward 10%. The amount matters less than establishing the habit.

Because financial independence doesn’t begin when you become wealthy. It begins when you decide that your future deserves a place in your present-day budget.

That message means even more to me today.

As a woman, entrepreneur, investor, and widow policy advocate, I have seen what can happen when women are not adequately prepared to understand, protect, and make decisions about money.

Financial knowledge is not just about becoming wealthy. It is about having choices. Security. Independence. And power over the direction of your own life.
