Cadillac WTR on pole at Laguna Seca!

Louis Delétraz topped GTP qualifying for the Monterey SportsCar Championship, laying down a 1:13.221 in the No. 40 Cadillac for Wayne Taylor Racing. The No. 31 Whelen Cadillac secured second to complete a front-row lockout, while the Long Beach–winning No. 93 Acura rounded out the top three.

In GTD PRO, Vasser Sullivan Racing put Lexus on pole as Jack Hawksworth clocked a 1:21.228 in the No. 14 RC F GT3. Over in GTD, Lorenzo Patrese claimed pole in the No. 34 Conquest Ferrari with a 1:21.441.

So far, the No. 40 WTR Cadillac has led every session at Laguna Seca. Now the question is whether Delétraz and Jordan Taylor can turn that dominance into a win tomorrow.

Jonathan Bomarito 👉 The LAST home hero.

As it stands, Bomarito is the most recent driver from Monterey, California to compete in an IMSA race at his home track, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Born January 23, 1982, in Monterey, Bomarito has made nine starts at Laguna Seca, seven in IMSA competition. He never quite made it to the podium though, with his best overall finish of fourth, achieved three times with Mazda.

His most recent appearance at Laguna Seca came in 2022, driving for PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports in the LMP2 category.

Who will be the next Monterey native to race in IMSA at Laguna Seca?

The Last 5 IMSA Winners at Laguna Seca!

Porsche Penske Motorsport has owned Laguna Seca the past two seasons, and Before that, Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing claimed the win in 2023, which was in fact the first GTP race of the modern GTP era in Monterey. And prior to that, it was all about Wayne Taylor Racing and Acura, who dominated the closing years of the DPi era at Laguna Seca.

But this year, things are guaranteed to change. The 2024 and 2025 winning Porsche lineup won’t be back to defend their titles! Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell aren’t competing at Laguna Seca this time round, while Nick Tandy is instead going for GTD PRO honors with AO Racing.

So the question is: will Acura, Cadillac, or Porsche return to the top step? Or could BMW or Aston Martin shake things up and return to winning ways in Monterey?
