Welcome to OUT THE BACK DOOR. I'm about HOMESTEADING and OUTDOOR LIFE.
I'll show you ways to make your life a little more simple and back to the basics. My goal is to use my life experience to help teach those that haven't been taught basic home skills. No, I'm not off-grid, but I try to be as self-sustainable as possible and I've planned to be ready if an emergency arises. I garden and forage for many of my foods. I hunt and fish to provide meat for my meals. And at times I'm out enjoying nature whether it's on my bike, kayak, snowshoes, hiking or just walking through the woods. Above all else, God comes first in my life... without Him, I would be nothing.
Thank you for joining me and God Bless.
Out the Back Door
Soooo.... I realize I've been very quiet on here and haven't shared what I've been up to. It's been a very long season of trying to recover from surgeries and it's still slow going, but I am trying to get back into the swing of things.
As far as my side hustle, OTBD Bath Body & Beyond, I want to thank you all that have been very patient with me while some of your favorite products have been out of stock. I'll be working on them!
I'd also like to share with you that I'll be selling my personal care products, candles, tumblers and mugs at Shining Salt Shoppe in Gilbert, MN!
I'm very excited to be a part of this new Christian business that will be opening up SOON! Please come support them if you live in the area and join them for their Grand Opening starting October 16th - 18th. For more information, please see the attached flyer. Sorry for splitting it into two parts... YT only does square.
As I'm able to, I'll take pictures of some of the items that I'll have up for purchase and post them.

🚨 According to NBC News
U.S. ATTACKS IRAN: The U.S. entered the conflict between Israel and Iran overnight, with American warplanes and submarines firing on three nuclear facilities in Iran: Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.
DETAILS OF STRIKES: The U.S. is calling the military strikes against Iran Operation Midnight Hammer. According to a defense official, more than 125 U.S. military aircraft participated in the operation. It was the largest B-2 operational strike in U.S. history and the second-largest B-2 mission ever flown, only exceeded by missions after 9/11.
TRUMP ADDRESS: In an address to the nation shortly after the attacks, President Donald Trump said the sites were “completely and totally obliterated,” adding that any future attacks would be “far greater and a lot easier.”
RISK OF ESCALATION: Iran says it “reserves all options” to respond to the U.S. attacks. United Nations chief António Guterres urged restraint and de-escalation, saying “at this perilous hour, it is critical to avoid a spiral of chaos.” Trump said any retaliation from Iran on U.S. assets "will be met with even greater force than what was unleashed today."
RETALIATORY STRIKES: Iran launched a missile barrage into Israel this morning, causing damage and injuries in Tel Aviv, while Iran's allies in Yemen, the Houthis, said they will join Iran in retaliation.
U.S. DEBATE: Democrats have questioned the legality of the strikes, with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer D-N.Y., saying “No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy.”
HUNDREDS KILLED: Since the conflict began 10 days ago, Israeli strikes have killed at least 400 people in Iran and injured 3,000, according to Iran’s health ministry. The death toll in Israel from Iran’s retaliatory strikes remains at 24.

Easy Weekend Grilling for a Group! 🍔
HOBO DINNERS are easy to make, but I'm going to show you how I make a big batch even easier to feed a crowd of guests!
INGREDIENTS:
➡️12 burger patties🍔
➡️2# thick sliced bacon🥓
➡️1 large yellow onion 🌰 cut into 12 slices
➡️2# carrots 🥕 peeled & sliced into coins
➡️3# potatoes 🥔 scrubbed and diced (peeled optional)
➡️Asparagus cut into 1" pieces (Optional)
➡️Seasoning 🧂 of your choice (I used Lawry's Seasoned Salt & black pepper)
DIRECTIONS:
Pre-heat your grill OR oven to 350° F.
Wrap 2 pieces of bacon around each burger patty and place into a roaster pan or a large cake pan. Season to taste.
Top each patty with a slice of onion.
Distribute the carrots and potatoes (& asparagus) evenly over all of the patties. Add more seasoning to taste.
Cover with foil. *Normally, Hobo Dinners are made and packaged individually in foil and cooked. 😉
Bake covered for 1 hour at 350° F. Allow to sit a few minutes before removing foil. Let everyone take a serving and have a bottle of ketchup nearby to complete the Hobo Dinner.
If you have extras, this freezes well!
Enjoy! If you have made these, leave me a comment. ⬇️
Have a wonderful day, and God bless! 😊

🥶 It's the end of May and another morning of 29°! I forgot to bring the hummingbird feeders in for the night, and they are frozen. If the freezing temps don't destroy the blossoms on everything, there's another concern on my heart.
Normally, our apple trees are buzzing with beautiful music from the hundreds of bees, as they go from blossom to blossom pollenating them. I realize the temps have been on the cool side, but I've only seen ONE Bumble bee and that was last week in the blueberry patch. If they are hiding out because of it being cold, the blossoms are going to fall to the ground first before being pollenated. OR are there no bees?
We've got 24 apple and 4 cherry trees, along with the honeyberry, blueberry, and strawberry patches that all have blossoms that need pollenating. Next will be the blossoms on the vegetables once it's warm enough to get them in the ground. And the flowers? Our lilac bushes, once bloomed, are usually full of bees and butterflies.
The bee population has declined horribly! My thought? I'll call it "sky pollution"... read between the lines. 😡 Leave me a comment on your thoughts about this.

🔥🔥🔥 The fires in our area are still 0% contained. The first one started Sunday afternoon and the cause was a camper that left a campfire burning. This person has been apprehended.
The second one started presumably from someone tossing a cigarette because it started next to a road.
The third one started by a hay bale self-combusting. The owner called 911 immediately, but firefighters weren't able to respond in time to contain it because they are fighting the other 2 fires that have now become one.
Emergency resources are being called in from everywhere. Approximately 140 structures have been lost. As of this morning, just over 30,000 acres have been consumed by these fires. The evacuation areas grow continuously.
Thunderstorms were supposed to roll in last night and we are all praying for rain to help fight the fire, but the rain didn't come. Another large rain front should hit our area later this afternoon, but the concern with storms is lightning 🌩 igniting a new fire.
Emergency responders are bulldozing breaks, but the fire has jumped a road and river already. Water bombers have been flying over us as they fill at the nearby lakes.
The last couple of years in our area, storms have done major damage to homes and properties with high winds, large hail, and flash floods. Now, the wildfires are out of control.
Please stand in prayer with me.

The winter storm has finally passed over us. I'm sharing our "spring" BEFORE and "winter" AFTER pictures that I took 24 hours apart from each other. We were very fortunate and only got 6" of snow. It's extremely heavy, and the highways weren't plowed yet at 6 am this morning. Hubby said the roads were horrible, and he drives truck. The temps are "supposed" to get into the 40s today and tomorrow, so I'm not going to attempt to clear the driveway of the snow. That's why you own a 4WD vehicle when you live in the country. We needed the moisture, so in a way, this was a blessing.
My prayers go out to all the families that were in the path of the tornadoes. The footage I watched was devastating.
Stay safe, my friends, and God bless you.

It's April 1st, and this is NO joke. We have a winter storm ready to roll in on us. This is why it's WISE to be a prepper. Be prepared for ANY type of situation, not just when things go SOUTH!
We can easily have power outages with trees and lines down because of the weight of the snow. It's 19° right now. Major things to think about... water, heat, and sanitation, besides food and lighting. Be ready. Be prepared.

We actually had a very nice day a few days back. The temp got up to 61°, the sun was shining, and I was enjoying my walk.
Most of the snow and ice had melted where I like to walk and big reddish brown mud puddles were everywhere. During this time of year you'll see me in my knee high rubber boots!
I didn't realize I trained my eyes to look all over the place at one time. Yes, they dart constantly. And why? Because that's how I find my pretty rocks. 😆 The rocks on this path are filthy right now and covered with a layer of old winter mud, making them all look the same in color. Well, most of them do.
I mentioned my eyes dart? I've also trained them to spot particular markings; like the husks of an agate or the red markings of Mary Ellen jasper.
I take pictures from up above before I pick up a rock to investigate it and play a game with my husband later on asking him "Where's Waldo?" Rarely does he spot it, but he's learning to find some really nice pieces of jasper, even though they are extremely dirty!
Anyway, on this walk, I noticed a different looking host rock that had "some" husk showing. I dug it out of the muck and rinsed it in the mud puddle. To my surprise it was a decent sized agate! It may not be the best specimen, but I find the host rock interesting and I'm sure tumbling it will reveal more of it's inner beauty.
🌿 God sure creates beautiful hidden treasures! That goes for people, too! You know the saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover"? It's so true. Don't look at the outward appearance of a person and come to the conclusion that you know what the inside is like.
God has put giftings inside each and every person. Some fruits are very obvious once you allow yourself to look beyond the appearance, and others are just starting to grow. God has a purpose for each and every one of us. Yes, including you, and you are very loved! 💖 I hope you all have a blessed day! 😊
