Bandits Kill 20 in Fresh Attack on Kebbi Community

BIRNIN KEBBI, Nigeria, June 14, 2026 – African News Digest

At least 20 people have reportedly been killed following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on Fesken Rafi community in Arewa Local Government Area, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in parts of Kebbi State.

The Kebbi State Government expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the attack as tragic and extending condolences to the families of the victims and residents of the affected community.

Leading a state government delegation on a condolence visit, Deputy Governor Umar Tafida assured residents that the administration remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.

According to the deputy governor, additional security personnel and operational resources will be deployed to the area to strengthen ongoing operations, restore normalcy and prevent further attacks.

“We share in your grief and remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Kebbi State,” Tafida said during the visit.

Officials told the delegation that the attack occurred several days earlier and resulted in significant casualties. Among those who briefed the government team were Sani Tela and Nuradeen Kangiwa, who highlighted the impact of the assault on the community.

The officials also commended Governor Nasir Idris for efforts aimed at combating insecurity and supporting affected communities.

Traditional leaders, including Kabiru Sulaiman, representing the Emir of Argungu, Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, as well as the District Head of Bui, Abubakar Dan-Malam, praised the government's response.

The traditional rulers appealed for the construction of a road linking Fesken Rafi to the main highway, arguing that improved access would enhance security response times, boost economic activities and improve living conditions for residents.

The latest attack underscores the persistent security challenges facing rural communities in northwestern Nigeria, where banditry, kidnappings and violent attacks continue to threaten lives and livelihoods despite ongoing military and security operations.
