​Interesting Facts about Iceland inentences:
​Iceland is one of the world's most geologically active regions, sitting on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. This unique location results in its dramatic landscape of volcanoes, geysers, and natural hot springs, which provide nearly all of the country's electricity and heat.
​Culturally, Iceland has a strong connection to its Viking heritage, and its parliament, the Althingi, established in 930 AD, is one of the world's oldest. The population is small and closely-knit, with a tradition of very low crime and high literacy rates, and the local police famously do not carry guns.
​Around 10% of the island is covered by glaciers, including Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe, co-existing with its active volcanic regions. Furthermore, due to the Gulf Stream, Iceland's coastal climate is milder than many people expect, allowing for year-round outdoor swimming in geothermal pools.
