Georgia Blows It Against Ole Miss Falls 39-34 in CFP Quarterfinal Heartbreaker
In a game that felt firmly within their grasp the Georgia Bulldogs let it slip away late falling 39-34 to the Ole Miss Rebels in a stunning College Football Playoff quarterfinal collapse.
Georgia controlled large stretches of the night and looked poised to punch its ticket to the semifinals. Instead a combination of defensive breakdowns missed opportunities and late game execution failures turned a winnable game into a season ending disappointment.
A Fast Start and a False Sense of Control
Georgia came out sharp offensively leaning on balance and tempo to stress the Ole Miss defense early. The Bulldogs consistently moved the chains won at the line of scrimmage and built momentum that suggested they were ready to take command of the game.
By halftime Georgia had positioned itself exactly where it wanted to be dictating pace and keeping Ole Miss from finding any sustained rhythm. But the warning signs were already there. The Rebels were hanging around and explosive plays were starting to leak through Georgia’s defense.
Ole Miss Turns Explosive Plays into a Comeback
The second half flipped everything.
Ole Miss leaned fully into its identity speed spacing and aggression. The Rebels attacked Georgia vertically stretching the field and punishing blown coverages. What had been a manageable lead for the Bulldogs evaporated as Ole Miss stacked quick scores and forced Georgia into uncomfortable situations.
Georgia’s defense usually its calling card struggled to get stops when it mattered most. Missed tackles in space communication breakdowns in the secondary and an inability to generate timely pressure allowed Ole Miss to seize control late.
Late Chances Same Result
Even after everything unraveled Georgia still had chances to win.
Down five late the Bulldogs had the ball with an opportunity to author a signature playoff drive. But penalties stalled momentum and failed execution turned that final possession into a painful microcosm of the night. Ole Miss slammed the door and Georgia was left watching its championship hopes disappear.
What This Loss Says About Georgia
This wasn’t about effort it was about finishing.
Georgia had the game the moments and the opportunities. What it didn’t have was the ability to close when the pressure peaked. In a playoff setting those margins decide seasons.
Ole Miss took advantage of every crack Georgia left open. The Bulldogs didn’t and that’s the difference between advancing and going home.
Final Score
Ole Miss 39 Georgia 34
For Georgia it’s a loss that will linger. For Ole Miss it’s a program defining win one earned by capitalizing on mistakes staying aggressive and refusing to blink when the moment arrived.

The Oil Rigs Have Run Dry for Texas Tech: Oregon Shuts Out Red Raiders in Orange Bowl
The oil rigs officially ran dry for Texas Tech on New Year’s Day.
The Oregon Ducks delivered a dominant, suffocating performance in the Orange Bowl, blanking the Texas Tech Red Raiders 23–0 in a game defined by defensive pressure, ball control, and field position.
Oregon’s defense was the clear story of the night. The Ducks held Texas Tech to just 137 total yards of offense and limited the Red Raiders to 22 minutes of time of possession, never allowing them to find any offensive rhythm. Quarterback Behren Morton was under constant duress, as Oregon’s relentless pass rush forced four turnovers, repeatedly flipping momentum and short-circuiting any chance of a comeback.
While the final score suggests a blowout, the game itself was more of a grind. Offensively, neither team lit up the stat sheet. Oregon finished with 309 total yards, but consistently won the hidden battles that decide postseason games. The Ducks controlled the clock, possessing the ball for 38 minutes, wore down the Texas Tech defense, and capitalized on mistakes when opportunities presented themselves.
Texas Tech simply could not sustain drives. Penalties, negative plays, and turnovers kept the Red Raiders behind the chains all night, and their inability to protect the football proved fatal against an Oregon defense that thrived on chaos and pressure.
In the end, this Orange Bowl was a showcase of complementary football by Oregon: protect the ball, dominate time of possession, and let the defense take over. For Texas Tech, the wells ran dry early and stayed that way, as the Ducks cruised to a statement shutout on the national stage.

Miami Stuns Ohio State 24–14 in the 2025 GoodYear Cotton Bowl
Entering the 2025 GoodYear Cotton Bowl as a 9.5-point underdog, the Miami Hurricanes delivered one of the most physical and complete performances of the postseason, knocking off the Ohio State Buckeyes 24–14 in a statement win that echoed across the college football landscape.
From the opening kickoff, Miami dictated the tone. The Hurricanes’ defense overwhelmed Ohio State’s offense with relentless pressure, disciplined gap control, and opportunistic playmaking.
Defense Sets the Tone
Miami’s defensive front was dominant, racking up five sacks and consistently collapsing the pocket. Akheem Mesidor led the charge with two sacks, spearheading a pass rush that never allowed Ohio State’s offense to settle in.
The Hurricanes also forced two interceptions, the biggest coming when Keionte Scott jumped a passing lane and returned it for a pick six, a momentum swinging play that electrified Miami’s sideline and silenced the Buckeye crowd.
Equally impressive was Miami’s ability to shut down the run. Ohio State was held to just 45 rushing yards, eliminating balance from the Buckeyes’ offense and forcing them into obvious passing situations that Miami’s defense exploited all night.
Efficient, Clean Offense
Offensively, Miami did not need fireworks, just execution. The Hurricanes’ offensive line delivered one of its best performances of the season, keeping quarterback Carson Beck clean and in control.
Beck played the role of steady game manager to perfection, finishing 19 of 26 for 138 yards and a touchdown with zero turnovers. He consistently made the right reads, avoided negative plays, and allowed Miami’s physical identity to shine through.
The Hurricanes rushed for 138 total yards, leaning on a balanced backfield. Mark Fletcher Jr. led the way with 90 rushing yards, punishing defenders between the tackles, while CharMar Brown added a key rushing touchdown that capped off a methodical scoring drive.
Miami Wins the Trenches
More than any single stat, this game was decided by physicality. Miami controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, out hitting, out working, and outlasting Ohio State for four quarters. The Hurricanes imposed their will defensively and played mistake free football offensively, an ideal formula for an upset on the biggest stage.
What Comes Next
With the win, Miami advances to the College Football Playoff semifinals, where the Hurricanes will face the winner of Georgia vs Ole Miss at the Fiesta Bowl on January 8, 2026.
Statement Made
In a postseason full of surprises, Miami’s 24–14 victory stands out as a declaration. The Hurricanes did not just upset Ohio State. They outplayed them in every meaningful phase. On a night when toughness mattered most, Miami proved it was the more physical team, and the Cotton Bowl trophy followed accordingly.
