As I have given up on social media, that is where I will be publishing everything I make. If that interests you, then please follow me there.
If you stay subscribed here on YouTube, you will probably see some new things at some point. I have plans for video projects, and self-hosting video is not practical. Even so, I will consider my web site as the primary publishing platform.
We're getting deeper into the Advent of Code 2021. Only ten days left. How is everyone else doing so far?
For two days in a row I have been able to solve the puzzles, but not without difficulty. Day 14 I had to stop the video recording, figure out a solution on paper, and then resume recording and explain my solution, Thankfully it worked. On Day 15 I had to stop recording, Google around until I learned something new, and then resume the recording.
Even with those pauses, the videos are starting to get rather long.
If someone wants to say I failed/cheated/etc. that arbitrary distinction doesn't matter to me since I'm not doing this for competitive purposes. I consider it a success because even after programming being my job for so many years, I'm learning new things, which is a huge win. Also, Advent of Code helps me to recapture the joy of "real" programming since this is nothing like the kind of programming that I ever do at work where we mostly link various tools and services together to get work done.
What I do care about though, is that making these videos does require a bit of effort. I'm not entirely sure that watching me Google search for an algorithm and then implement it is very compelling content. It's probably more boring to watch, and definitely less enjoyable to make it when it runs long and slow.
Tomorrow I'm going to try something different. Instead of making a long video showing my entire process with hardly any editing, I'm going to do the opposite. I'm going to solve the entire puzzle on my own. Then I'm just going to make a video in which I explain the solution I came up with.
I'm letting you know here because I'm not going to waste any time in the video itself with this kind of meta-discussion. Let me know what you think.
If you haven't noticed already, I've been participating in Advent of Code 2020 moreso than in years pasts. I'm live streaming myself solving the puzzles on a daily basis. I'm also uploading the recordings of those streams to this YouTube channel, at least when the video comes out nicely.
I hope you enjoy these videos and can learn from them. As someone who has been programming computers since literally Kindergarten, I wanted to show what my actual process is like. It's not magic, and I'm not some kind of genius. You can see me googling for really simple things as well as struggling with simple and bugs.
Whether or not you enjoy these videos, I do have plans for other content coming up, some of which is not technological in nature, so be on the lookout for that and thanks for watching.
Hey, just testing out this YouTube community post feature for the first time. I assume a lot of the people who subscribe found me via Netrunner or GeekNights, since that's what I've made the most videos about.
I'm sure you know, but most of our GeekNights video content, is over on Rym's channel youtube.com/geeknightsrym
As for Netrunner, the game is being kept alive by Project NISEI. If you are interested, that's where you need to look. But for me, I spent several years playing one game a whole lot. Even if the game is in a great place, and I hope it is, that time has past for me. I'm back to playing a lot of games a little bit each.
As for this channel, I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing. Post stuff that is according to my interest, which could be anything from typical nerdy stuff to biking or baking, or whatever. If for some reason you like following me, you can just look for Apreche and/or GeekNIghts on Twitter, Instagram, or whatever platform. I'm probably there.
And why not, let's just try out this poll feature.
