OCD Recovery
Before I found the OCD Recovery team, I was completely trapped in a cycle of fear, avoidance, and relentless guilt—especially around relationships. The fear was so intense that I would avoid them entirely, convinced I couldn’t handle the constant anxiety they brought. When I did get into a relationship, the chronic anxiety and guilt would hit me like a tidal wave, every single day. I remember ringing my partner in tears, unable to explain what was happening inside my head, only causing more confusion and pain for both of us.
From the moment I opened my eyes in the morning to the moment I fell asleep, I was in survival mode, gripped by fear, begging friends for reassurance that never truly helped. I had heart palpitations, I was obsessively trying to control my breathing, and my mind was a constant loop of intrusive thoughts, feelings, and sensations. Constsntly trying to figur it all out. It felt like I was losing myself. Depersonalisation and derealisation was constant. The only thing that seemed to offer even a moment of relief was giving in to the compulsion, leaving my partner, again and again. But it never got to the root. The cycle always restarted.
Eventually, I hit rock bottom and I knew something had to change.
Very luckily enough I stumbled across the OCD recovery YouTube page and could relate massively to the message they spread. From their I got in contact and started my journey.
Their work, teaching self, life, and other acceptance, disputing irrational beliefs, and doing exposures completely changed my life. The thoughts haven’t vanished, but they don’t control me anymore. They barely stick. I’ve learned how to respond rather than react, and how to live without needing to eliminate every uncomfortable feeling.
Now, my mind is calmer. I’ve stopped avoiding relationships and have been in a committed one for over two years, and my entire view on life has shifted. I feel peace where there used to be constant panic. I feel capable where I once felt broken.
Im not fully recovered but I genuinely believe I’d still be stuck if I hadn’t found this team. They gave me the tools, but more importantly, they gave me hope. If you’re struggling and wondering if things can get better, please know that they absolutely can.
Recovery is possible. You are not alone and this team can help lead you there.
