This Sunday, October 19th, my friends âȘ@greentickerwarrior⏠and @CharlesBivin will be hosting a Twitter Space with Chuka Mordi, the CEO of Ellah Lakes Plc â one of the few publicly listed companies in Nigeria focused on agriculture and competing with the likes of Presco and Okomu Oil
Itâs not every day you get to hear directly from a CEO on the real opportunities and challenges in Nigeriaâs agribusiness sector â especially one running a listed company.
Now hereâs the fun part đđœ If youâve got any questions youâd love to see asked â about Ellah Lakesâ strategy, performance, expansion plans, or even how theyâre navigating the agri value chain â drop them in this short form:
đłđŹ Happy New Month + Independence Day! đOctober 1st always feels special â not just because itâs Nigeriaâs Independence Day, but because itâs a reminder that freedom is a process, not an event. Thatâs also how investing works.
You donât become financially independent the day you buy your first stock.
Just like Nigeria, youâll face ups and downs, challenges and wins. But every step forward compounds into progress.
As I serve my NYSC year (picture attached đ), Iâm reminded that discipline, patience, and service are part of both nation-building and wealth-building.
So this month, challenge yourself: đ Invest consistently, no matter how small. đ Focus on the long-term, not just todayâs struggles. đ Remember: financial independence is built daily, just like national independence. Cheers to growth, discipline, and freedom â both for us as individuals and as a country. đ„
Nigerian Exchange (NGX) had suspended trading in the shares of Universal Insurance Plc (also referred to as âUnivinsurâ)âeffective as of September 1, 2025âdue to the company's failure to file its audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2024.
What Does This Suspension Mean for Investors?
1. Trading Is Temporarily Disabled
You can no longer buy or sell Universal Insurance shares on the NGX until the company submits the required audited accounts. That means if you're looking to exit your position, youâll have to waitâliquidity is effectively frozen.
2. Next Steps for the Company
To restore trading, Universal Insurance must:
Submit its audited financials that meet NGX standards.
Comply fully with the relevant provisions of Rule 3.1 on filing of accounts.
Once compliance is confirmed, NGX will lift the suspension.
3. Precedents Shine a Light
Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc had its suspension lifted on March 20, 2025, after submitting its required audited reports. Trading resumed following verification.
Guinea Insurance similarly reinstated trading in August 2024 after compliance.
These cases encourage hope: compliance typically leads to swift resumption of trading.
4. Risks for Investors
Time-sensitive capital: While the suspension is in force, investors canât liquidate positions or redeploy funds.
Valuation uncertainty: No active trading means share prices can become outdated or speculative.
Delisting danger: If the company fails to file its audited accounts indefinitely, NGX may escalate to delisting, which severely undermines value and investor recourseâhistorically, investors in delisted firms (like MedâView Airline, Goldlink, Capital Oil) have faced big losses and negligible liquidity.
The effect of this above hastened the submission of their report.

The CEO of Zenith Bank just purchased 10,000,000 units of the bankâs stocks and 58,754,077 units at different price point
This is a very solid vote of confidence
