A whistleblower has released details of a cover-up by special forces during an independent inquiry into allegations of extra-judicial killings in Afghanistan by British troops.

The special forces soldier feared the elite SAS regiment would ‘go down the sewer’ unless he blew the whistle on what he believed was ‘illegal behaviour’.

The officer, who worked closely with the most senior SAS commanders, raised the alarm within a specific SAS squadron but was constantly rebuffed, transcripts of evidence – released despite objections by the Ministry of Defence – reveal.

The officer warned that the failure to own up to criminal acts in Afghanistan by the SAS – including shooting toddlers in their beds – would allow the regiment to descend to the level of despotic regimes.

Declassified has reported how the inquiry was forced on the Ministry of Defence after increasingly credible claims of ‘cold-blooded murder’; of planting weapons on innocent civilians and deleting incriminating documents.

Pro-Israel lobby groups have flown British MPs out to the country at least 56 times since the Gaza genocide started.

An investigation by Declassified found that more than £133,000 has been spent on trips for Labour, Conservative and Reform MPs over two years.

They were paid by Labour Friends of Israel (LFI), Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI) and the European Leadership Network (ELNET), which describes itself as “the most influential pro-Israel advocacy organisation in Europe”. One trip was also funded by the newly-formed Reform Friends of Israel.

All of the lobby groups have highly opaque funding arrangements, and have consistently ignored questions about their donors.

It comes as parliament’s standards commissioner warned MPs against accepting hospitality if they wanted to boost public trust and be able to tell constituents: “You can be sure nobody is buying my favour”.

On Tuesday, the standards commissioner reprimanded Labour MP Cat Eccles, after Declassified revealed she had failed to declare her attendance on an LFI trip in time.

He said: “Ms Eccles has acknowledged and apologised for her breaches of the rules.”

In September this year, Reform’s deputy leader Richard Tice MP was also flown out to Israel by Reform Friends of Israel (RFOI), which was set up in June.

Other MPs who have been on trips include Keir Starmer’s parliamentary private secretary, Jon Pearce; former Tory defence secretary Gavin Williamson; and the senior Conservative MP Robert Jenrick.

The figures are revealed in copies of parliament’s register of interests, published over the course of two years. They do not include trips made by members of the House of Lords, many of whom have also joined similar delegations.

Some of the trips taken by MPs include photo opportunities with Israel’s president, Isaac Herzog, and briefings from the IDF.

When questioned by Declassified recently, one of the Labour MPs who travelled to Israel admitted: “I was asked to go. I just do as I’m told.”

Peter Prinsley, the MP for Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket, said he had “no idea” if voters cared about the fact he shook hands with President Herzog.

“I really don’t know that they’d be interested in it, to be quite honest,” he said.

Exclusive: British military personnel have ‘studied on educational staff courses’ in Israel since October 2023, Ministry of Defence discloses

The revelation exposes a new layer of British military collaboration with Israel amid what the UN commission of inquiry has described as a genocide.

The information comes in response to a parliamentary question tabled by Zarah Sultana MP.

On 18 November, Sultana asked the Ministry of Defence “whether any British armed forces officers have studied or trained at Israeli military colleges since October 2023”.

Defence minister Al Carns responded earlier today, saying: “Fewer than five British Armed Forces personnel have studied on educational staff courses in Israel since October 2023”.

It remains unclear where the troops studied or which branches of the military they came from.

Charlie Herbert, a retired British army general, told Declassified: “It is absolutely extraordinary to think that UK military personnel have been undertaking military education or training courses in Israel over the past two years.

“Given the credible allegations of war crimes against the political and military leadership of the IDF, all such exchanges should have immediately ceased.

“It does our armed forces a huge disservice to be associated with the IDF, given the conduct of the IDF in Gaza since late 2023 and to think that we are training in Israel only adds to the accusations of UK complicity in this genocide”.

The Ministry of Defence was approached for comment.

Israel’s state-owned arms company, Rafael, is closing its UK wing after an investigation by Declassified.

RUK Advanced System Ltd is registered in London, but records show it is a subsidiary of Israel’s state owned arms giant, Rafael.

The closure comes after an investigation by Declassified in July, which found the company had donated at least £1,499 to “partner” with a cross-party group of MPs.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Defence Technology accepted the money despite rules that ban funding “directly or indirectly” from a foreign government.

Westminster authorities subsequently launched an inquiry into the APPG’s chairman, Tory MP Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst – and the group quickly disbanded.

At the time, RUK Advanced Systems Ltd did not respond to a request for comment – but its website was taken down less than 12 hours after being contacted by Declassified.

Now, the firm has filed a so-called “First Gazette” notice to Companies House, which initiates the process of closing it.

A source claimed the closure is not linked to Declassified’s investigations, but no official reason has yet been given.
