Helping DIY artists achieve studio quality records by simplifying home recording

Book Lovers: I highly recommend reading The Creative Act by Rick Rubin 👌🏼

It’s one of those books that I’m going to keep coming back to again and again.

There were so many good takeaways. This was one of them 📚 #thecreativeact #rickrubin

🎛️ Try these alternatives next time you’re working on music at home

Instead of cranking the volume too high or piling on plugins, try stepping back, listening on different systems, and using reference tracks to guide your sound.

It’s important to always remember that every project is a chance to learn something new.

đź’ľ Save this post so you can come back to these tips whenever your mix starts feeling stuck.

Do you have your own list of “Do’s and Don’ts” you would share around making music?

Not pictured: how it actually started.
The first slide is the earliest photo I could find from my home studio journey.

I started with a simple USB mic,
some free software from Pro Tools,
and zero know-how.

Most days, it felt like I was just making noise but not creating anything I could be proud of.
And it definitely wasn’t close
to the records I wanted to sound like.

But deep down,
I wanted to create music that felt honest.
I wanted to grow.
I wanted to sound like I belonged
next to the records that inspired me.

So what changed?

I started learning how to listen better.
How to trust the slow build.
How to fall in love with the journey.
But most importantly...
I kept showing up.
Imperfectly.

Real growth isn’t loud.
It’s often quiet.
It happens behind the scenes,
in every step you take. Big or small.
When no one is watching.

I’m not sharing these photos to brag
or highlight gear - big deal.
These spaces hold more than that.

They hold the countless hours
of chasing the “perfect sound,”
the breakthroughs, the doubt,
and the undeniable joy of creating.

Maybe you're having trouble starting
or maybe you've started,
but you're deep in the thick of it.

Keep going.

It’s not about how you start.
It’s about giving yourself permission to begin - over and over again.

When it comes to music production, I often hear these common misconceptions about the process. Let’s go through a few:

➡️ Myth 1: You need expensive gear to sound professional
🚫 The truth: it’s not about the price, it’s about knowing how to use what you have

➡️ Myth 2: You have to go to school to learn this stuff.
🚫The truth: it takes hands-on practice, learning the fundamentals, and getting honest feedback

➡️ Myth 3: Mixing and mastering will fix everything
đźš« The truth: no amount of mixing or mastering will fix a bad recording
