Ready for a media hot take? Of course you are.

While it has some extraordinary acting and individual moments/shots/scenes, taken as an overall product, I thought that "Come and See" was pretty mid.

This isn't for an upcoming video- I just saw it recently and wanted to see if anyone else felt the same. Maybe a livestream next month once I am back to a reliable internet connection?

How often do you read fiction? (for fun- not a school assignment!)

YouTube is a notoriously bad platform for getting across announcements and updates. Despite my mentioning them frequently, I have been surprised to see that a LOT of people had no idea that:

- I am writing a fiction novel about a zombie outbreak in 18th Century England

- I have a website where I post all of the primary sources I use in my videos in a free digital library

- I donate 10% of all this channel's profits to various charities, as voted on by the audience

- Some videos are even released! Unless people are signed up for notifications or check the subscriptions tab, they may not be recommended.

Of course I don't blame anyone in the audience for not knowing this stuff. But, if you're keen on my work and would like to be made aware of it more effectively, I have decided to launch a quarterly Newsletter via my website.

The Newsletter will be a brief description of the videos I have released, the projects I am working on, and any other important developments with this channel, my authoring, and The Native Oak as a whole.

If you're interested in signing up, you'll find a place to enter your email at the bottom of my website here:

For those uninterested in emails- I guess just have to do a better job at shilling in my videos!

18th century primary sources could play pretty fast and loose with their capitalisation- often, nouns of 'importance' were capitalised where, today, they would not be.

So, do you think I should do so for my Upcoming Book? Keep to the Old Style of writing with Words of Import capitalised, or use Strictly Modern grammatical rules?

These last few days, between plugging away at book editing, I have been transforming the Digital Library section of my website! It should now be more user-friendly, with a proper, searchable database rather than just a simple list.

Give it a look over and let me know what you think! Any quality of life features you can think of? Or maybe documents you'd like to see added? Let me know!

In the future I'll be adding a form at the bottom where you can submit such suggestions directly. In the meanwhile, the comments here will suffice.

In a typical 18th Century British military encampment, who would be doing most of the cooking?

Let's look at a basic building block...
The 18th century was:

The last two polls have made it pretty clear- you lot love the Pike and Shot era, and it'd definitely behoove me to learn more about it! I think I'd like to start with the English Civil War, and work my way to the wider world from there.

When it comes to sources, what would you recommend? What are the best overviews of the time period and specific conflicts therein, the best books about military doctrine, and all the rest?

I am looking both for primary and secondary sources- with the caveat that I only speak English!
