What makes a weird animal weird? Once a month, hosts Hank Green and Sarah Suta introduce you to a new bizarre beast and explore the many answers to this question.

If you want to take a bizarre beast home, there’s a pin club for that. Check out our trailer for more information and subscribe to the pin club here: complexly.store/products/bizarre-beasts-pin-subscr…

New episodes go up the first Monday of every month. If you’re already subscribed, you’ll get the pin for that month around the time the episode goes live, and you’re automatically signed up for the next month! Subscriptions are open all the time, but if you want this month's pin to be your first one, you need to subscribe by the 20th of the month! New subscribers will receive their first pin in the middle of the month, and then keep getting pins whenever a new video goes up!

Time for our Artist Spotlight! Meet our November pin artist, Charlotte!

Hi! My name is Charlotte Gomez, and I'm an artist and designer specializing in fantasy and editorial illustration. I currently live outside of Los Angeles with my husband and two cats, Flemeth and Muad'dib.

I love creating work around nature, so translating the Mexican Tetra's duality into a pin was a fun challenge. It left me thinking a lot about the two different lives a Tetra might lead, and how those experiences become ingrained in their development. It felt important to include the two paths in the same pin.

The next endling in our mini-series is the Thylacine! Thylacines (aka Tasmanian Tigers or Tasmanian Wolves) have been extinct since 1936. Many factors contributed to their extinction, but our own zoological fascination was part of the problem. Learn more in our latest episode.

Bizarre Beasts

If you guessed Mexican Tetra, you're right! This little tropical fish makes a great aquarium pet, but it also lives in cave systems in at least 29 different caves. That’s where the weirdness comes in. In addition to its normal fishy cuteness, this beast also comes in various versions of cave flavor. https://youtu.be/PXW7xcESz-s

Bizarre Beasts

Sometimes we can spot when a new species diverges from a nearby population. Certain adaptations can even give us a clue about what’s to come. However, our next bizarre beast gives us a chance to see what happens when a single beast makes an evolutionary change. Can you guess what the next bizarre beast is?
