If you’ve seen my video playlist about Japanese store BGM… (and probably have been brainwashed by the BIC BIC BIC CAMERA! melody) here’s another fun fact for you.
Starting this Friday, the famous JR Yamanote Line Ikebukuro Station will officially display its station name as:
「池袋（ビックカメラ前）」 “Ikebukuro (in front of Bic Camera)”
Back in March 2024, the departure melody at Ikebukuro changed to the Bic Camera theme song. So now the station not only sounds like Bic Camera, it is literally labeled as being in front of it! :)
Japan’s commitment to jingles-as-urban-identity continues. Should I make another playlist? 🙌
