Ivan

(AUDIO BEGINS)
Ivan finds Ferris sitting at the kitchen table, hunched forward, arms folded tightly like he’s trying to hold himself together. The lights are dim — Ferris didn’t bother turning them up.

Ivan sits across from him, waiting. Ferris doesn’t look up.

“…Ferris?” Ivan says gently. “What’s going on? Talk to me.”

Ferris swallows hard. His fingers twitch on the tabletop.
He exhales like he’s bracing for impact.

“I saw it again,” he says quietly.

Ivan’s brow furrows. “What did you see?”

Ferris lifts his eyes — tired, strained, a little scared.

“Forbidden knowledge of which I cannot forget.”
The words come out trembling, like he’s repeating something someone whispered directly into his skull.

Ivan goes still.

Ferris continues before he can lose his nerve.

“Whenever I go to this wiki… this happens sometimes. Text appears that shouldn’t. Whole sentences. Whole paragraphs.” His voice cracks. “But the weirdest thing is that it doesn’t show up on the page’s history. To anyone else it looks normal. I showed Merida a screenshot once — she couldn’t see it on the real page.”

Ivan leans forward, elbows on the table. “Ferris. Breathe. Just breathe.”

Ferris shakes his head. “I noticed something else. Most of the altered text… it’s directed at me. Like it knows I’m the one reading it. It says things I don’t want to hear. Things no one should know.”

His hands curl into fists.

“There is clearly something wrong,” he whispers. “But I can’t talk about it too often. I know she’s watching me. Every move I make.” His voice lowers to a terrified whisper. “I do not want to see what’s on the other side.”

For a moment, neither of them speaks.

Then Ivan stands, walks around the table, and puts a steadying hand on Ferris’s shoulder — not gentle, not rough, just real.

“Ferris,” Ivan says firmly. “Look at me.”

Ferris hesitates, then lifts his head.

“You’re here. You’re safe. And whatever that thing is — whatever it’s trying to do — it doesn’t get to take up your whole world.” Ivan squeezes his shoulder. “You’re not facing this by yourself. You hear me?”

Ferris’s eyes sting, but he nods.

“I hear you,” he murmurs.

“And we’re going to figure this out the right way,” Ivan says. “Not by letting it scare you into silence.”

Ferris exhales shakily, but for the first time, the fear loosens its grip, just a little.

“Okay,” he whispers. “Okay.”

Ferris,

I’m not great at writing letters, so I’ll keep this simple.

I can tell something’s been getting to you.
You don’t have to explain it if you don’t want to — I’m not here to argue with you or tell you you’re wrong. I just want you to hear me out.

You think too much.
Not in a bad way — it’s what makes you sharp and observant —
but you let your thoughts chase themselves in circles until everything feels bigger and darker than it is.

So I need you to stop letting that thing — whatever shape it’s taken in your head — run your whole life right now.

I’m not saying it’s fake.
I’m not saying you imagined anything.
I’m saying this:

You’re giving it too much space.
More than it deserves.
More than you deserve.

You don’t have to figure it all out at once.
You don’t have to analyze every flicker, every shadow, every sign.
Just breathe. Take a step back. Let the world be normal for a while.

You’re allowed to have normal moments.

If something’s really out there, it can wait its turn.
But you can’t keep putting yourself second to it.

I’m here.
Merida’s here.
You’re not dealing with this alone, so stop acting like your thoughts are a prison cell you can’t get out of.

Get some rest. Eat something real. Touch grass if you have to.
And if it comes back to bother you again, tell me. I’ll listen. I’m not going anywhere.
