Sunday Jump is a community arts organization at Pilipino Workers Center in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles. Open mics are 1st Sundays, 5-7 pm. Season is May to November. Sunday Jump facilitates a safe space for marginalized voices to share stories and create genuine connections through the arts.

We present the 9th Annual Katipunan Poetry Slam at SIPA’s HiFi Collective in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles on Saturday, October 21, 2022!
Poets will compete for cash prizes. We have Ashley C. Lanuza, Demetri Manabat, Johnny Swoopz, KP, Laraisabird, Maria Bolaños, Matt Balane, RJ Abesamis, and Soul Stuf. Sound Selection by DJ Miko / Yungbuko. Food and drinks by HiFi Kitchen. Hosted by arianna lady basco.
For Filipinos, the modern day poetry slam is an echo of the balagtasan—a poetic, political debate. The Katipunan were the revolutionary group in the Philippines who fought for independence against Spanish colonization in the 1890s. In honor of this history, the KPS provides a platform for Filipino poets to channel the fighting spirit of our ancestors in this celebration of free speech, and celebration of us.
