Master Funky: Intermediate Two-Hand Groove Breakdown 🎹🔥
Ready to funk up your piano playing?
In this tutorial, we are breaking down a seriously cool, intermediate-level funky groove that requires great two-hand coordination.
It’s definitely a challenge, but we are going to completely deconstruct it together!
I'll walk you through the groove step-by-step:
* Separate Hands: Breaking down each hand slowly so you can master the patterns.
* Slow Counting: Counting every single note and hit out loud.
* Two Hands Together: Bringing it all together with a metronome, starting super slow and gradually building up the tempo.
Take it nice and slow, count along, and let’s get into the groove!

I have a gift for all of you...🎁🎹
We all know that to play correctly, you have to practice with a metronome.
At the beginning, it's very important to learn to feel the quarters, eighths, and sixteenth notes...
But in salsa, we have a different rhythm pattern... the clave. All musicians listen to and sync up with the clave part, which is usually played by a percussionist.
So how do you practice this alone at home when you don't have percussion instruments in the background?
I built the perfect solution for you: a free Latin metronome directly on my website!
No complicated apps, no downloads—just enter, choose a tempo, and let the clave sort out your groove in your head and fingers.

Tell me in the comments—have you ever practiced with a clave, or is this going to change your playing starting today? 👇

We all know basic chords, but adding the 7th is where the magic happens! ✨
A 7th chord adds that extra color, warmth, and motion—whether you're playing Jazz, Blues, Bossa Nova, or even a soulful Ballad.
It creates a subtle tension that just begs to resolve.
Take a look at the F major chord in the picture. Which note would you add to make it an F7?

Ever dreamed of playing sweeping, authentic Latin piano, but when you tried to put it into practice, it just didn't sit right? 🎹🔥
Playing the right notes is one thing, but giving it that genuine groove, warmth, and rhythm is a whole different story.
Many pianists find themselves stuck with patterns that sound "square" or struggle to maintain hand independence.
That is exactly why I built the Latin Piano Masterclass - online course by Piano Freak
Instead of getting lost in endless theory, I’ve put together a focused 27-lesson track that takes you step-by-step:
• Essential Toolbox: Packed with the foundational harmony and necessary scales you actually need to build your Latin vocabulary.
• True Rhythm Connection: Internalizing the Clave, Tumbao, and Bossa Nova grooves so your timing feels smooth and natural.
• Punchy Montunos & Chords: Breaking down professional patterns and rich voicings that you can apply right away.
• Complete Practice Arsenal: Every lesson comes with accurate PDF sheet music, custom backing tracks, and a specialized Latin Metronome so you never practice alone.

Is reading sheet music the only way to become a professional pianist?
Here is my truth. 🎹
"Let’s lay it all out on the table – many young pianists feel they aren’t 'good enough' simply because they can’t read sheet music fluently.
They think that without the ability to sight-read a complex page, they don’t have a place on stage.
As someone who lives in this world—performing with ensembles, accompanying artists, and managing musical projects
—I want to share something that might surprise you: Most of the professional musicians I work with on a daily basis barely use sheet music.
In the real world—in Jazz, Latin music, Pop, and accompaniment—our language is different. It’s built on:
✅ Charts: A clear structure of chords that gives us the freedom to create.
✅ Sharp Ears: The ability to hear what’s happening around you and react in real-time.
✅ Groove and Sync: Feeling the Clave or the rhythm, rather than searching for it on a piece of paper.
When you’re on stage, the audience isn’t looking to see you reading from a page. They want to see you living the music. If you stop to decode notes, you lose the connection—both with the musicians around you and with the audience.
That’s not to say sheet music is bad—not at all. It’s an excellent tool. But it is not the prerequisite for joining the club.
So, to anyone who has felt bad about 'only' playing by chords or by ear: keep playing, keep training your ears, and keep focusing on sounding great. In the end, on stage, what matters most is what comes out of your fingers and your heart.
Tell me in the comments—are you a 'Sheet Music' player or an 'Ear and Charts' player? I’m curious to see who makes up the majority here! 👇
P.S. If you still love and need your sheet music (and want to avoid the 'paper storm' in my photo!), check out my sheet music bundles right here👇

Why do your hands refuse to cooperate when you play? (It’s not what you think!)
The reason we struggle to play independent patterns with our hands isn’t because we aren’t talented enough—it’s simply because our brain and body aren't used to it yet. If you’ve tried to play a complex groove and failed, it’s likely because you jumped into deep water before learning to swim.
When I was young, I dreamt of being a professional musician. I learned to play by ear, moving from an organ to a synthesizer, and eventually finding my home on the piano. I always wanted to express myself, but I kept hitting a wall. I realized the biggest problem for most of us is that "we don’t know what we don’t know." If you don’t know what’s missing, you can’t fix it—you just stay stuck.
Everything changed for me in the early 2000s when I joined Mayumana, a world-renowned rhythm-based performance group. For those who aren't familiar with it, Mayumana is an international show that blends rhythm, dance, and theater, often using unconventional instruments like buckets and barrels.
Performing on the world's biggest stages was an incredible experience, but the real magic happened in the rehearsal room. Through years of intense training in body percussion, limb independence, and mastering complex African and Latin rhythms, I literally rewired my brain. It was the most transformative period of my musical life and the moment my piano playing jumped to a completely different level.
I’m sharing this because I want you to remember: There is a path forward.
If you’re struggling, don’t blame yourself. You just haven’t walked that path yet. You need the right steps in the right order.
I’d love for you to join me on that journey. Let’s bridge that gap together in my Latin Piano Masterclass.👇
