ဒါကတော့ လူသိပ်မသိလိုက်တဲ့ JDM နဲ့ Muscle လောကထဲ silent war တစ်ခုအကြောင်းပဲ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ Dodge and Honda have been fighting a silent war in the automotive world for years.
It happened in 1989.
During those years, Honda was developing an experimental sports car project called “Project Raijin” in its top-secret R&D division.
This would later become Honda’s first exotic Japanese sports car with an AWD + Twin Turbo + Active Aero system.
One day, the main design files for Project Raijin disappeared from the developing lap. This design was a bridge between Honda and Mitsubishi.
Because Mitsubishi wanted to share its own design with Honda and produce it as a twin producing unit, the design was given back to Honda.
(Twin producing refers to production units where the car design is the same but the headlights, rear grills and airvents are slightly different.)
Fact - Mitsubishi initially wanted to share design/technology sharing with all the companies it was close to and share all the technology it knew about the sports car world. Because by 2000, Mitsubishi was going to leave the sports car world, and eventually wanted to do twin production with all the Japanese car companies.
(That's why many generations of Mitsubishi's sports car series were finished. Only the Evo series survived at Mitsubishi.)
Honda was in a panic because the great design that Mitsubishi shared was gone. Even after reviewing CCTV records, it disappeared without a trace. The Raijin project team at Honda could not help but conduct various investigations. However, they could not open a public case due to lack of sufficient evidence and gave up.
On the other hand,
Victor Harlan was a field engineer in the Dodge R&D Division. He was a subcontractor between Mitsubishi and Honda, working on automotive parts testing.
One interesting thing is that, although it is not certain whether he accidentally obtained a car design that had been lost in the Honda R&D division or was hacked, some CAD files from the Raijin Design office ended up on Victor's laptop.
