Food for thought for those that have patches that say “armed officer”, “officer” or “agent”. A little tip for doing something that is a little more professional looking and a little unique. If you work in healthcare security, add that. If you work construction security, add that. If you work event security, add that. And so forth.

You can get custom vest patches at very reasonable prices that are relevant to your position and more professional than your typical, “armed officer” or “agent” type of patch when everyone already sees your armed and to avoid misinterpretation and avoiding misleading the public into believing your a law enforcement officer or agent with the words “officer” and “agent” bigger than “security”.

Professionalism is the number one key!

For those that say, there is zero training on helping identifying potential threats for security guards and the security industry. Other than the free courses via Homeland Security and organizations under the National Domestic Security and the National Domestic Consortium act. October 6, 2025 08:00-17:00, there is a Threat Awareness for Security Professionals & Law Enforcement in Catoosa, OK.

Sign up and reserve a spot. Remember, keep all receipts for the course, travel, lodging and expenses (hotel and food) to be reimbursed at the end of the year.

At times it is easy and obvious to spot the real from the wannabes, those with training and without training. This is a perfect example. A legitimate protective officer (law enforcement protection actually) and a security guard with only a level entry security guard card training background. Professionalism is key and professionalism is what creates deterrence. Get your guards properly trained and squared away!

Canada has it right and has the same mindset! I love it! A good read for security and as I’ve discussed before in videos, emergency management training and hands on skills is very applicable to the security and protective industry and to each and every single individual guard, as emergency management is one of my top specialties outside the industry for volunteer emergency services but it transitions into my everyday life and my security work especially.
