Jackberry Jayne is a bluegrass duo rooted in telling and retelling stories where land and lives intertwine. Formed by Deanna Porterfield and Amanda Blankenship, the project grew from a shared desire to honor the forgotten communities of Kentucky’s Land Between the Lakes — places where churches, hollows, and family homes once stood before the landscape was changed forever.
Their debut album, Between the Rivers, weaves together songs of daily life, sacred spaces, displacement, and resilience. From the tolling grief of Bethel’s Bell to the spared stillness of Small White Chapel, from the steadfast voice of Last One Standing to the tender gratitude carried in Memories, Jackberry Jayne gives voice to those who left, and those who still remember. Together these songs form not an argument, but a witness. Jackberry Jayne does not seek to revive what was lost, but to remember it well — and to sing it forward.

Jackberry Jayne
Why Jackberry Jayne?
The name “Jackberry” comes from the language of this region itself—a local name for the humble hackberry tree here in Western Kentucky.
Hackberry trees grow along riverbanks, taking root in changing soil and enduring through the seasons.
We chose the name Jackberry Jayne because, in its own small way, it carries the spirit of the place that inspired us. It felt like the right name to carry these stories.
