One of my favorite parts about living in Thailand is how villas like this are a 45-minute flight away. YouTube batch week staycation loading!

I've got sooooo much to catch y'all up on! Good, bad, and a little ugly, but this view will help me process 😅🌊🌴🙌🏾

My life is a lie.

Today at the doctor’s, I learned I’m actually 5’11 😅

All these years I’ve sworn I was 5’8.5 and I’d round up to 5’9 to be cute 🥴

But y’all, I’m really a giant ain’t I?

Are we still growing in our 30s?!?! Why am I so shook by this information 😭

What age did you for sure stop growing?

Uzbekistan is a literal fairytale! 🇺🇿 And Registan Square in Samarkand was the photo that sold me on this country… and I hope it just sold you too!

For centuries, Registan was more than just beautiful architecture; it was a living story! I mean, this was a hotspot of The Great Silk Road!

This ancient route that’s over 2,000 years old and connected Europe to Asia, is the reason for so much of the global trade that’s been maintained today.

Merchants, scholars, musicians, and travelers from across the Silk Road all gathered here, and today, it still feels like the heartbeat of the city.

What surprised me most was how alive the culture feels… like the walls and stones could tell stories.

And music felt medicinal! My gosh, I could be leaving a live performance at dinner after dancing for an hour by 11pm, and find another restaurant with more live music playing past midnight.

Uzbekistan doesn’t even try to be impressive, it just is! And that’s what makes it such a fascinating experience if you’re lucky enough to come here in this lifetime.

My 10 days weren’t nearly enough, but I have a feeling it’ll be the first of many trips to come.

A big thank you to @marupovph who I highly recommend you book for your Samarkand photoshoot!

Similar to the Greek dress photos in Santorini, it’s a thing here! And I was okay with being a tourist about it 😆

God bless the good people of Uzbekistan.
You’ve changed me in ways I’m still processing.

What a blessing to experience as much of this beautiful world while we still can 🥹🫶🏾

What would you do if the chef walks up says, "Meals on me if I could get one photo!" 😆

But I had just ONE simple request back before I obliged.

My latest upload is a heavy, but honest one.

I recap more encounters around Central Asia, unpack the cognitive dissonance of being called "beautiful," and share more insider tips for anyone wanting to explore this region... especially if you have melanin.

Enjoy! https://youtu.be/f7ehVzfoNlY?si=cb5TH...

Side note: this video deserved a black/white edit. I don't know, it just seemed appropriate. Open to feedback on that!

Juneteenth Joy! 🏞️☀️ “I love Black people so much! My English teacher was Black and she was so kind. What I’ve noticed is they don’t try to be anybody but themselves, and it’s amazing.”

These words were graciously shared with me by a young woman I met in the Dushanbe airport in Tajikistan… and if you see this girlfriend, say hey! 👋🏾

One of my favorite parts of this Central Asia trip was the overwhelming affirmation I felt in my body, my presence, and my Blackness.

I don’t know if I’ve ever felt it this strongly anywhere else in the world.

I’ve known Thai people to be deeply accepting, Balinese people to be loving, and Japanese people to be incredibly respectful… and they are like this to everyone.

But the Central Asians I met had a special kind of warmth and reverence toward Black people that stayed with me (and the 2 other Black tourists I met)!

Grown women chased me down like I was a lottery ticket. And kids touched me like I was Santa on Christmas. People lit up when they saw me in a way 100+ other countries don’t even compare.

And while I know there’s a complicated conversation to be had about that kind of deep curiosity and being treated like a spectacle in some ways, what I felt most on this trip was delight.

It reminded me that being Black was always a benefit, even if America made it feel like a burden.

On a weekend where we commemorate the 250,000+ enslaved people in Texas who were finally granted freedom two and a half years late, I’m also sitting with what it means to be Black outside of America.

Outside of the country, systems, and history lessons many people still want watered down.

America is lucky we only seek equality and not revenge.

Anyways, God knew what He was doing when He dipped us in chocolate 🤏🏾

In every lifetime, make me a Black woman pleaaaase 💁🏾‍♀️

Is it possible to pass out while standing? Swipe to find out which photo has the answer 😭🦅

By far, the most exhilarating experience of this month-long trip through The ‘Stans was watching Eagle Hunting in Country #106, the unbelievable land of Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬

Camping in yurts in remote mountain villages and disconnecting from the world for a bit felt like a perpetual out-of-body experience.

There is so much to share, so much to process, and so much to appreciate about Central Asia.

I hope this plants even the slightest seed of curiosity to inspire your own trip here.

Trip logistics and videos to come!
Still trying to come down from this high 🥹

Me on my 100th “once-in-a-lifetime” trip 😭⛰️🌳

New videos being uploaded in the next 24 hours, I promise! Just checking in to let y’all know I’m having the time of my life in The ‘Stans and highly recommend this region for anyone looking for a colorful adventure!

I’ve documented so much, I didn’t want to rush posting these because they deserve nuance, context, and space.

It’s been a rollercoaster and 90% positive, but y’all know I gotta keep it real about the 10% too 😭

Cheers to freedom.
Cheers to choice.
Cheers to travel.

I started this journey 15 years ago with a backpack, an outdated blog, and a hunger to do whatever it took to afford “one more trip.”

Well, 105 countries later, looks like I might as well go all the way to 195!

To anyone who desires different, I implore you to allow the messy version 1 to have room to breathe.

We don’t want to try because failure is too risky when we want so badly to curate an image of having our lives together.

But the boldest thing you can do is admit you’re just doing it for the plot 😅

It’ll either make for a really good outcome, or a really great story.

So go chase the story and I guarantee the outcome will follow ❤️

“I make videos ALMOST every, single day!” 🤭

New sign-off unlocked, haha! But I appreciate you all’s patience while I’m about 10 videos behind because I’ve had no time to edit while experiencing pure euphoria daily.

Uzbekistan is now a top 3 country and there are so many reasons to love this place and these people.

You all have been so generous with your comments lately, I’ll be catching up on responses soon!

Side note: this entire 4-country trip was completely funded by one month of my YouTube videos.

I can’t stress enough just how much content creation can fund your dreams and life.

So thank you all for helping me buy back my time to spend more of it on the very first thing that started my career 15 years ago… solo travel.

Grateful for your watches, shares, comments, and kindness.

I’m already considering hosting a shopping trip here next year because the silks and fabrics are insaaaaane!

Okay, I’ll be editing on my way to Country #105 now… Tajikistan! 🇹🇯

If you know anybody there, please tell them to reach out, I’d love to meet them! 🥰
