Heya, guys! It's been a while since I talked to my lovely YouTube audience, so I wanted to check in and drop some updates about how things are going. I have a lot I can and want to say since you, my beloved audience, deserve nothing but the utmost transparency.
First, videos, the stuff you're here for. I have scripts locked and loaded, ready to record! However, for the past week I had some stuff in my mouh that made it incredibly painful to talk. I intended to get back to work right as September arrived but that threw a big wrench in my plans. Those are almost completely gone now, thank goodness, and I will be recording those expeditiously, hopefully with something resembling a video ready to ship this month or the next.
I took August off from doing anything YouTube related to prepare for school as I am a full-time student again, it's a very stark change after being a bum for a while but it's pleasant. Additionally, I am a freelance editor, so there are times where this channel isn't the priority, even when it comes to video editing. Whenever I am free, though, and not doing other stuff I do intend to put my all into videos since this is a hobby that I am deeply passionate about and find fun to participate in.
I want to do another discussion video with some more friends once TGS showcases more of Twi-Lumina, so maybe that'll be something.
Second, MBTL. I'll be 100%... most of my fighting game time recently has been on Avatar LMAO that game is so, so fun. As MBTL enters its final rest, it is a little hard to stay motivated to travel and compete in the game. That being said, I will always be a Melty/FPan first creator, I just love the scene and series too much to not be and there's still so much to say in regards to just Lumina alone. Even if I drop off the face of competing or going to majors for however long, I'll still always be around as a creator/commentator/TO.
Last, as a creator. If you haven't noticed, I'm a YouTube partner now! I have been since the Kouma video dropped. Making little drops of revenue off the videos but the streams like KIRBO CUP and LUMINOUS PANTHEON I intentionally turn off any sort of monetization. It's annoying when I'm multistreaming and Twitch puts unskippable ads I can't fully turn off so I hope that YouTube can be the safe place for people just trying to watch the game.
That being said, I have been thinking of starting up Channel Memberships at some point or another. As stated earlier, I am a full-time student now and I do travel a fair bit, so some more income through YouTube would be nice. I haven't for the time being, though, because I feel that I should earn your guys' trust first before asking anything monetary/for profit, even if it's optional. I can't ask for any amount of money as support if I'm just going to make one video a year then dip and only livestream/make shorts for the rest of it... it also makes it very, very hard to provide proper incentives or rewards for the paying supporters since a common membership incentive is stuff like progress reports and early viewings. If, and only IF, I can get that second full-length, fully edited video out by this year, September or October ideally, will I even THINK of opening memberships and asking for any amount of direct financial support since that will hopefully be the mark that shows I can actually provide decent benefits.
Side note, I have been slowly trying to reopen the Discord server to the public. I nuked the old link I had for so many years because I found it annoying to deal with things like bots or whatever popping in and haven't fully recovered. I intend to make server links more of a progressive rollout type deal, where it's time-limited links every so often or whenever a new video drops. I guess a membership perk could just be permanent access? I don't know, thinking too far ahead.
Anyways, that's been my newsletter. Thanks for reading fellas, much love and I hope to see you guys again before the year's over. <3
How's it going, everyone! If you'd allow me to overshare just a bit, It's definitely not been the most productive for me right now since I'm scrambling with school stuff in the background, so the next video is kinda floating in a weird inbetween state, but I come bearing ThatKirbo MBTL news!!
After spending about a year in the TO retirement mines, I'm officially returning to hosting Tournaments with KIRBO CUP+! If you're familiar with me and my tournament activities, you may remember KIRBO CUP as the premiere beginner/intermediate bracket back when it was consistently active before eventually dropping off and quitting that entirely.
I'm back because I want to get ready for and get a nice hold in before Twi-Lumina, but that means I can't just be hosting Beginner/Intermediate brackets anymore! In the MBTL illuminati backstage I kinda agreed that we shouldn't even have any of those for the first few months of Twi's life because... everyone is new. So KIRBO CUP+ is, in fact, just a normal open netplay bracket (for North America :P) that will be streamed on biweekly Fridays both on Twitch and on YouTube. Once I get LUMINOUS PANTHEON up and running they will alternate weeks.
As a player or just as a viewer, please look forward to the return of KIRBO CUP this Friday, 8.14 at 17:00PT!
We saw that characters will be getting straight REWORKED in Twi-Lumina. This is great! A lot of characters in the game are kinda uninteresting and definitely don't live to their fullest potential (like Mash). Who do you think needs the BIGGEST rework to be a much more interesting character than they ended up in the final patch of MBTL?
Hello, friends! Starting tomorrow, I'll be streaming some exhibitions for the PSA Eclipse fundraiser over the weekend. Two incredibly large LUMINOUS PANTHEONs (thank you to Kikoho for letting me use the branding for this) to raise awareness for the fundraiser and for some good freaking Melty. With 8 sets of NA players and 5 sets of SA/LATAM players spread out across two days, this is hours upon hours worth of Type Lumina content so please tune in at any time on your preferred platform!
I'll be doing some extra stuff solely on Twitch, too (tho depending on how it feels ill see if i can restream here for you guys). On Saturday, I'll be watching over some JP VODs with Luffy to spotlight the Japanese players (18:00ET). Unfortunately, we weren't able to get schedules aligned for the JP players for a proper PANTHEON. On Sunday, I'll also be hosting the stream for and will be taking part in the Twi-Lumina news roundtable (14:00ET), streaming the Kikoho Pikachu Presentation that was part of the stretch goals (15:00ET) and. Please look forward to all of it!
howdy friends have you seen my new video you should watch it :)))))
Additionally, I have been working on event stuff behind the scenes. I’ve primarily been working with everyone for the Eclipse fundraiser to get some exhibitions running on my channel. If you haven’t been watching the other exhibs being run by the PSA guys, do that if you can. Special LUMINOUS PANTHEONs featuring players from all regions of the fundraiser will be marking the return of the series, so look forward to that.
Also… actually I forgot while typing it out lmao. Peace out once again, hope to get another video out by the year lmao ✌️
How's it going, everyone! Apologies for not being on schedule, work-life balance and event prep (among other things) has made it hard to run LUMINOUS PANTHEON how I wish to. I do come bearing a TL-related announcement, though.
PSA, the primary NA MBTL community, has started up a fundraiser to fly 4 high-level players out to Eclipse, the Climax of Night successor. Fundraiser events will be taking place, and I intend to help by running some stuff for awareness.
The players are as follow:
🇯🇵 Moai - EVO 2023 Winner, 2nd at Climax of Night F. A world-class competitor in both MBAACC and MBTL, winning multiple major titles in both games. Fearless would be the best word to describe his play—he rarely ever plays into his opponents hand and instead interacts how he pleases. A force to be reckoned with, and its always a pleasure to see him play in the States.
🇯🇵 ??? - An TBD second Japanese player. More details soon.
🇨🇦 KirbySage - You may have seen him here on this channel already in LUMINOUS PANTHEON 01. A top Mario player who, for one reason or another, has yet to debut at a US event. An incredibly technical lab rat and the main mind behind a lot of Mario's modern tech. Continuously demonstrates character mastery through his strong showings in netplay brackets and the occasional Canada regional.
🇨🇱 Donnie - 5th at Climax of Night F. An incredibly strong South American player in both MBAACC and MBTL and a good friend of mine. His incredibly strong fundamentals allow him to excel with any character, as seen in his recent results in Inversion Impulse, the biweekly South American netplay bracket, but his Ciel is easily in the running for the best in the world.
LUMINOUS PANTHEON will (still) return momentarily. However, I have decided that I will be reviewing/rebroadcasting the VOD from the first offline PANTHEON to fill this week's timeslot while I am still figuring out the player list for the next online entry.
As I said in my previous post, these sets were both incredibly fun and incredibly close, so I think it's worth making sure that you guys see it if you haven't! This Satuday, streamed on the platform of your choice here on the ThatKirbo channel.
Forgot to say anything but hello, everyone! I'm back. COMBO BREAKER was incredibly fun. I got 17th again but it was just great to be there and hang out with the Type Lumina community at another major.
We also did run the first offline LUMINOUS PANTHEON at COMBO BREAKER, with the VOD being posted below! The sets were incredibly close and the energy was off the charts. I hope to host more offline PANTHEONs in the future, with the next target being Eclipse! LUMINOUS PANTHEON will return momentarily, I am just taking some time off to get some other work done, cool down after the event, and get the schedule shifted to the promised biweekly rotation.
Friends, I come with a special announcement. This week's LUMINOUS PANTHEON is going to be played LIVE on an official stage at COMBO BREAKER! Featuring returning faces from PANTHEON 01 (already?) and a couple of players who otherwise would not be able to play in the normal LUMINOUS PANTHEON.
🇺🇸 FuShi (Arcueid) vs Luffy9_6 (Akiha) 🇸🇦 🇺🇸 ThatKirbo (DA Noel) vs Yunxmi (DA Noel) 🇺🇸
Genuinely so excited to share this with you guys, I am beyond honored to have this opportunity to share the game with everyone. While I won't be streaming, be sure to check it out on the UGSGaming Twitch when the time comes!
I'll also be hosting a Crew Battle on COMBO BREAKER Sunday, featuring some of the East and West Coasts' finest players. That one will be fun too, please be sure to check everything out for COMBO BREAKER weekend!
