We had toast with homemade Dandelion Jelly for breakfast and according to Bryant - age 8 - it was “BUSTIN!” 😋

Dandelions are growing wild right now, so go forage yourself some (from areas that aren’t sprayed with weed killer & pesticides) because this jelly is so easy to make and tastes like honey with a hint of citrus.

Ever since moving into his new HUGE enclosure and being able to run around in the sunlight and nap in the shade and interact with the other animals again, Pember (our emu) has been so cuddly and sweet. Well, he still tries to eat my hair, but he’s back to loving hugs and kisses. I felt so bad having him in a smaller temporary area while we cleared out the woods - especially when it took much longer than expected - but it was necessary in order to build him a permanent home. Totally worth it!

Oh, and that’s Honey hanging out with us. She’s our livestock guardian dog. She’s a 1 yr old Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd and has been doing a great job of watching over the animals. We have foxes, raccoons, opossums and a bunch of other predators that she helps keep away from our animals, especially at night. She’s such a great farm dog!!

One thing I wasn’t prepared for when we moved out to the country is all the snakes! This is the second one we’ve caught in two weeks. It shook its tail and I ran! I’m petrified of them. Mikayla is much braver than me, because she didn’t hesitate to kill it and chop its little snake head off.

The guys have been working to clear out half our woods for the past week and 1/2, so all the snakes are being displaced (plus the weather has been warmer). Time to put some sulfur out.

I busted out Post Doughlone- my trusty sourdough starter since September - today to make some homemade soft pretzels. I’m going to refrigerate them overnight and boil & bake them tomorrow around the time the kids get home from school because after-school snacks are the best!
