due to reasons i do not fully have access to, tufu's world record holder status has been vacated, and my current fastest run is the current world record run. i will receive more information about this soon, and will make a judgement call on how much i share in this setting.
i kinda wish getting the world record back was something that i did under different circumstances (i.e. overcoming the challenge), though. but hey, i guess i've been the world record holder the whole time i guess? i'm still pretty conflicted.
anyway, if my recent run being a record is something you guys are more interested in seeing, great! if you would've watched it anyway and didn't know it existed, here's me saying that it exists now.

hey everyone, update time! it's a bit bittersweet (and long) and feeding frenzy related. so last night i learned that a (very small) portion of the chinese feeding frenzy community has also been speedrunning the game. cool, right?
well, yes and no. yes because more competition is a good thing, even if it means that i no longer hold the record (yeah, i don't hold the record anymore. it was a shock to me, too!). while i am a bit upset that i don't hold the record, i'm not going to give up on my journey to lower my time (and, hopefully, eventually get the record back). ultimately the existence of new, faster runs shows that this game can be pushed further, just like i thought, and the new strategies employed by those runs can be studied and more new discoveries about the game can potentially be made.
the problem is that it's pretty inaccessible to those of us outside of china, which, for the record, is not the fault of the runners. china is pretty isolated when it comes to the internet, so communication between the chinese and international communities for feeding frenzy is lacking. however, i think that, going forward, the feeding frenzy community should work towards having better communication across these different regions. i'm sure i'll figure out what exactly that means here soon-ish.
this is where things start going really south, though. if you know me through feeding frenzy speedrunning, there's a good chance that you also know my friend @Dudfruit who is a top runner for feeding frenzy 2. both of us held the record for our respective game at one point in the past, and just yesterday dudfruit got the fastest time on the speedrun.com leaderboard, beating the previous holder of that title cavani.
now, i'm going to make 100% clear that under no circumstances should anyone contact cavani regarding this situation, either on my behalf or dudfruit's or on your own. just don't. that's not how we do things here.
the reason i mention this is to express disappointment with cavani's actions specifically (and i only do so regarding cavani because they are the only person whose actions i am aware of). cavani has been hoarding runs, explicitly saying that they wouldn't release new runs on speedrun.com until dudfruit beat their old time. for those of you not in speedrunner communities, this is poor etiquette. it prevents players from being able to learn new strategies, screws with the record timeline of the game, and is overall anti-competitive. i don't know if cavani will see this and i don't care either (and, again, don't contact them on my behalf regarding this, i shouldn't have to say this but i'm covering all my bases here), but i need to express this regardless as it is still important to talk about.
i will probably make a dedicated video about all of this, but that's essentially what's happening right now in the feeding frenzy speedrun community: relatively unknown runners with much faster times that haven't been posting to speedrun.com means the record is in a different position compared to what the leaderboard says, i no longer hold the record, and an established runner has... i guess a heel turn? that's the best i can describe it.
i'm doing okay mentally... i think, this is just for the sake of documentation and open communication (because, well, might as well get into the habit of doing that, right?). i hope you guys have a good day / evening / night / whatever else time of day lol
with the switch 2 trailer also showing that we will be getting a new mario kart game soon, i decided to make a tier list of the design of every item in the mainline mario kart series (and the tour items, since tour being mainline is contentious still) i'm open to questions, though i'll also clarify what each tier means below (so if the wording for them is confusing or unclear, hopefully it'll get cleared up - though it is a bit long). also keep in mind the tiers are not ordered!
no changes needed: this does not mean that these items can't / shouldn't be changed or that improvement is impossible, just that if you want to balance the game those items can stay unchanged and the game will be totally fine
suffers from global changes: this mostly applies to things like items not leaving the item slot when dragged or using all items at once in games like tour; in the absence of those issues these would go up a tier (those are not the only global issues, just some examples)
serviceable but could be better: i'm okay with these items receiving no changes but they can be improved in some meaningful or substantive way, and i believe they should be changed in those ways
change one critical flaw: these items do not share the same flaw as each other, but they have one prominent issue that is otherwise holding them back from being in one of the upper three tiers (i.e. thundercloud activating automatically)
needs a rework: this is the lowest tier in which i am okay if they are brought back with no changes, but i will also petition heavily for them to be changed as there are some problems with them that need to be addressed (i.e. chain chomp overlapping with bullet bill)
flawed in many ways: i truly believe these items can work if given the right changes but as-is they cause some balancing issues either by being too strong or too weak
outclassed or redundant: these aren't necessarily bad items, they just overlap too heavily with other items in ways that i don't think reworking them would change (at least not without losing their core identities). it's a shame, because a lot of them are kinda cool, but it's probably for the best we leave them behind
poorly designed, may not be savable: genuinely just not well-designed, there are major problems and they're just overall not great in terms of being an item in the mario kart series
actively makes the game worse: exactly what it says in the tier but not in a "omg this is so overpowered" kind of way; more like "this is the textbook example of what to avoid for mario kart item design" if that makes sense

apparently there are a lot of people watching my feeding frenzy world record run all of a sudden! i start college again soon so idk if i'd be able to deliver on this in a timely manner, but would you guys be interested in a video going over how feeding frenzy speedruns work or something along those lines? it's something i've considered doing in the past in addition to a compilation of funny failures in my runs (mostly from unreleased footage lol)

the feedback i got from the poll from yesterday suggests that i should go forward with the next video. however, a not insignificant portion of the votes are in favor of fixing the audio, so i'll compromise with the following:
-the follow-up to the fake item box video will come out soon with the audio i already have -future videos will focus more on just gameplay while i test out more audio fixes, and i'll come back to video essays once i've got a fix that actually works
the gameplay videos will be along the same lines as the 50 laps of talking flower video, where i take one race of formula kart wii and edit it down to a 10 to 15 minute video with memes interspersed. i'm also going to add more jokes to my arsenal to prevent any of them from getting stale. the explosions are staying though they're funny thank you to everyone who responded to the poll, and for all of your continued support! there will be more video essays on this channel in the future, related to mario kart as well as other topics i'm interested in!
hey everyone! i've been trying to prevent the same audio issues from the fake item box video from happening in the future, and as of right now none of the things i've tried thus far have worked. i've tried adding a pop filter, drinking more water, keeping the mic further from my mouth, but nothing has worked. i'm feeling a bit defeated by it, but i'm still going to try and fix it for the future. that being said, i do want to get my follow-up video for the fake item box out soon, and i did record the script for it with my fixes in action. so i ask you guys, should i bite the bullet here and release the follow-up video now, or should i delay the video and try more fixes in the meantime? i'd appreciate any feedback you guys can give me. thank you in advance!
