The current situation for children in Gaza is catastrophic, defined by extreme violence, widespread hunger, displacement, and a near-total collapse of basic services. Thousands of children have been killed, and many of the survivors suffer from life-changing injuries and severe mental trauma, with nearly all children needing psychosocial support. Famine conditions persist in parts of Gaza, and children are dying from malnutrition and preventable diseases due to severe restrictions on humanitarian aid and the destruction of most health and sanitation infrastructure. Education has vanished, with most schools damaged and children forced into makeshift shelters where they face overcrowding and the daily struggle to find food and clean water, creating a lost generation facing a future marked by immense suffering and uncertainty.

Eight activists in UK jails on a hunger strike related to the pro-Palestine direct action group Palestine Action, rather than six. They are being held on remand, awaiting trial for alleged actions targeting Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems. 

The eight individuals are:

Qesser Zuhrah

Amu Gib

Heba Muraisi

Jon Cink

T Hoxha (Teuta Hoxha)

Kamran Ahmed

Muhammad Umer Khalid (joined the strike in December 2025)

Lewie Chiaramello (on a partial hunger strike, refusing food every other day) 

The activists began their hunger strike on a rolling basis starting November 2, 2025, in protest against their detention conditions, alleged mistreatment, and a call for political change. Several have been hospitalized due to their deteriorating health, and doctors have warned of a high risk of death. 

Their five demands are:

Immediate bail.

An end to prison censorship of their communications.

The right to a fair trial, including the release of documents relating to Israeli state influence on their cases.

Deproscription of Palestine Action as a terrorist organization.

Closure of all UK Elbit Systems sites.
