Man, I’ve been bad at trying to do these monthly update posts - I’ve let them slip by for months! I suppose I have my excuses: I’ve always been busy, and my editing hard drive actually died in June and had to be recovered (that was fun). But still, forgetting since April is a bit bad. So I guess this is more of a summer update, to give you a reminder of what I’ve been up to for the last several months. I'll break up his up into a couple of posts than a huge massive one.
And hello to the huge surge of new subscribers after my video on Ice Cream Man: welcome!
I’ve really been trying to lean into long form video again this year, and be more consistent. In April, I reviewed the Michael Jackson biopic, and it was Bad - and not in the good way.
In June, I looked at the overly self-deprecating reboot of Masters of the Universe, Spielberg returning to UFOs in Disclosure Day, and the toys took on tech in Toy Story 5.
In July, I teamed up with @TheBadMovieBible to discuss Evil Dead Burn, journeyed into Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and had a Brand New Day with Spider-Man.
In August, Eli Roth slopped up Ice Cream Man, Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor fought dinos in The End of Oak Street, and the long-awaited Coyote vs. ACME finally released!
Now you can get all your Agent Cody Banks nostalgia in one place in this special marathon version of @AllisonPregler and @phelous 's Movie Nights episodes that I edited! 72 glorious minutes of VideoNow, Beanie Babies, British stereotypes, and Ian McShane being eaten alive!
I edited @AllisonPregler and @phelous talking Agent Cody Banks' inferior sequel, that takes Frankie Muniz's kid agent to a London of cor blimey stereotypes and dental horror, but I'm also in it on my own mission around London to find where they filmed it!
I edited @AllisonPregler and @phelous looking back at Agent Cody Banks, where Frankie Muniz is a junior spy who has a real problem with ladies, arguably the most 2003 film in existence. And, as such, is surprisingly horny for a family film. But also better than it should be?
Opening in the US is Mark Jenkin's very unusual Cornish time warp movie Rose of Nevada, with George McKay and Callum Turner. Shot on Jenkin's signature Bolex cameras, it's a movie that's very hard to describe. youtube.com/shorts/9Dvo_Z18lI...
Did my first convention visit in probably a decade this month. Was a bit humid and warm given the weather, and it was only a relatively small one, but, hey, I saw Warwick Davis and stood behind Brian Blessed, so there's that.
I edited @AllisonPregler and @phelous looking at another batch of Mary-Kate and Ashley antics, including a surprise sequel! Also, possibly their worst party video ever, some unexpected mime-related horror, and a mystery disappearing dance number!
I think there's some weirdness going on with YouTube today, so in case you missed it, I reviewed the safe cracking thriller Tuner, with Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman. Have a listen!
I edited (and make a cameo in) @AllisonPregler and @phelous discussing Lenny the Wonder Dog, Michael Winslow's ill-conceived attempt at a wholesome family movie. Boasting a star-studded cast: Andy Richter as the dog, Craig Ferguson is the baddie, and Oscar Isaac *is* Fartman!
