Esteemed elders, respected leaders, and dear brothers and sisters,

Today we gather to observe Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day.

This solemn day marks August 25, 2017, when brutal operations carried out by the military and authorities claimed the lives of countless Rohingya people, while more than a million were forced to abandon their ancestral homeland and flee to Bangladesh as refugees. It is a day to mourn, to reflect, and to record this tragic chapter of our history.

On this day, we share in the silent pain that resides in the hearts of our brothers and sisters. Yet it is also a day of hope — a hope to preserve our culture, our language, and our identity, and a hope to achieve justice.

As those who yearn for justice, we must not remain silent. We must continue to take each step forward, together, in pursuit of peace and human dignity.

August 25 must not be remembered only as a day when humanity was gravely violated, but also as a day to raise our voices for justice and for the protection of human rights. It is a day to recall the cries, the grief, and the losses of our people, while committing ourselves to ensure that such atrocities never occur again. Every individual has a role to play in this mission.

As Rohingya, it is our duty never to forget our people, and to safeguard our culture, language, and collective memory. If we truly desire justice, crimes must not be hidden or silenced. Instead, we must demand accountability and pursue justice with determination and perseverance.

This day is also a call to the entire world: a call to bear witness, to resist oppression, to seek reform, and to work toward rebuilding lives and communities.

I urge all to continue striving for peace, for justice, and for the restoration of human dignity to every victim of the Rohingya genocide. May all Rohingya men and women embrace this responsibility with courage and steadfastness. Let us stand united until justice is secured for all.
