Writing "Singing to Sad Songs" in old Montreal was one of those magical experiences that remind me why I love what I do. I wrote this one with Connor and Bea and it was actually the first time the three of us were in the same room. Not just to write, but even to hang out. It was amazing.

Bea came in with these beautiful piano chords that immediately set the tone. From there, we just started tossing around melodies and lyrics. I love moments like that, working with people you admire and learning from them and seeing how they work. It’s such a gift.

For me, this song was a trip down memory lane. I wrote about those nights in my RV when I’d be figuring out who I was and where I was going. I’d dance, sing sad songs at the top of my lungs, or just watch a movie play in my head, letting all that bottled up energy pour out. Those were raw, emotional moments, and this song captures that feeling of release.

The only thing left to finish when I left Connor’s that night was the bridge. A few days later I sent them an idea and boom the song was done. Connor absolutely nailed the production giving it this modern yet minimalist vibe that feels perfect for the song. And having Bea’s voice for back vocals adds such a gorgeous texture, it really elevates the whole track.

This definitely won’t be the last time I write with these two incredible human beings. I’m so grateful for this experience and proud of what we created. I hope "Singing to Sad Songs" finds its way into your world and resonates with you in your own way.
