⚠️#BREAKING: India provides refuge to the Iranian Warship IRIS Lavan in Kochi!
Days before the IRIS Dena incident south of Sri Lanka, India was approached by Iran to take in the Iranian Ship IRIS Lavan, which was also in the region for the International Fleet Review.
This request was received on 28 February 2026, indicating that a docking at Kochi was urgent as the vessel had developed technical issues. Approval was accorded for the docking on 1 March. IRIS Lavan has since docked at Kochi on 4 March. In this context, its crew of 183 are currently accommodated at naval facilities in Kochi.
It is learnt that there were 3 Iran warships, of which one has sunk after the US attack in the Indian Ocean. Another warship has taken refuge at the Colombo port.

⚠️ #BREAKING: Sri Lanka Navy has rescued approximately 30 sailors out of the 180 strong crew from the Iranian naval ship IRIS Dena, which was in distress with around 180 sailors onboard.
The rescued sailors are being brought to Karapitiya Hospital for medical attention.
IRIS Dena participated in the Indian navy’s International Fleet Review and Exercise Milan at Visakhapatnam.
It was on its return voyage to Iran as Operation Epic Fury commenced.
