Today isn’t just about posting cute pup pics (although we’re always here for those!) — it’s about celebrating the unconditional love dogs give us and recognizing how many are still waiting for their second chance.

🐾 National Dog Day was created to raise awareness about the countless dogs in shelters and rescues across the country — many of whom are at risk of euthanasia due to overcrowding, underfunding, or simply bad luck.

At Pilots To The Rescue, this is the heart of our mission. We fly at-risk dogs from overcrowded shelters to safety — giving them the chance to be adopted into the loving homes they deserve. Every flight is a lifeline, and every dog is worth it.

🚨 24 dogs were scheduled for euthanasia in Louisiana on August 18. 🚨

Sadly, they’re not alone… hundreds of thousands of dogs are euthanized in overcrowded shelters across the U.S. every year simply because there isn’t enough space or resources.

This week, thanks to ‪@bissellpets‬ and YOU, we get to rewrite the ending for these 24 innocent pups. 💛

Our road warriors Albert and Artem will be driving through the night to meet these dogs in Indiana and transport them safely to our rescue partners in Wisconsin, where forever families are waiting. Dogs like Squirt, Alice, Breezy, and so many others who were just days away from losing everything are getting a second chance thanks to your support.

We are so grateful when we get the chance to pull animals off these lists—but there are always more waiting.

Traveling in the heat can be stressful for cats, so here are a few ways to keep them safe and comfortable:

🧳 Use a secure, well-ventilated carrier
🚗 Never leave them in a parked car — not even for a minute
💧 Offer water often, and pack a travel bowl or bottle
🌤️ Keep carriers out of direct sun and off hot pavement
🫶 Bring familiar comforts (like a favorite blanket or toy) to ease anxiety

On Saturday, Pilots Michael Schneider and Tom “Helicoptom” Schneider flew into action, partnering with SE Coast SC Rescue Collaboration to give 22 dogs and 4 cats the ride of their lives—from overcrowded shelters in South Carolina to open arms in the Northeast.

✨ These precious animals came from shelters like Dillon County Animal Shelter, Saint Frances Animal Center, and Williamsburg County Animal Care & Control—places where space is scarce, and time is limited. Thanks to you, they are now safe and on their way to forever families through amazing partners: Freedom First Rescue, Happy Homes Animal Rescue, Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, and Pawsitive Possibilities Rescue.

But here’s the truth: ✈️ emergency flights like this are only possible because of donations—especially from our monthly “Flight Crew” supporters. When a call comes in and animals are out of options, your steady support gives us the ability to say YES.

🐾 Yesterday was one for the books. ✈️💛

Our rescue mission with Seuk’s Army & Hartz Loving Paws brought together an incredible team—pilots, rescue partners, shelter staff, and volunteers—all working side by side to give 25 animals a second chance. The teamwork was inspiring, the smiles were endless, and the compassion was contagious.

We were also thrilled to see the media helping us share these stories far and wide. Huge thanks to WSB-TV and FOX 5 Atlanta for shining a spotlight on our nonprofit work and the urgent need to get these pets adopted quickly.

Every news story, every share, every person who talks about our mission helps these furry friends find homes faster—and that’s what it’s all about.

🐾 Tomorrow, 25 lives take flight thanks to Hartz Loving Paws. ✈️💛

We can barely handle the cuteness of the dogs, puppies, and cats we’re rescuing—and we can’t wait for you to meet them. With the help of our rescue partners at Seuk’s Army, these sweet faces are about to begin the journey to safety, love, and their forever homes.

PTTR pilots MacKenzie and Paul will be flying from Georgia back to the Northeast, delivering them to these amazing shelters who will help them find the families they’ve been waiting for.
